Can't decide. SuperboatY2K or sunsation 288
#1
Ok, new to Offshore Only but been lurking for a long time. I just sold my American Offshore 2600sc 100mph boat. With insurance companys puttin the hurt on cats and the fact I would like some cabin space to nap, I'm lookin into a mid size V. The two I like are the Superboat Y2K and the Sunsation 288. I know the overall handling ect. of the Sunsation, however I can't find any reports on the Superboat 7' beam and deep vee, no pad may chine walk or porpouis. Any inputs here??

The Superboat will be faster and better in the rough.......nice lines as well.
The Sunsation will easily have more amenities and nicer interior.
Cabin space will be better in the Sunsation IMHO.

I don't believe it does either of those things. Have you spoken to John Coen or Fast Eddie Simmons yet? They raced one in F1 class.
Also talk to JCAP in the racers forum. He races one too.

I kinda want the info second hand. Not from the builder or rep. Gotta cover all my base's. Can't find one to test on the west coast so I'll have to fly to them when i feel confident thats what I want.
Thanks

I am a member of the 7' beam club (Activator). The 7' beam boats will run in the snot better than the more luxurious Sunsation. If you want to have space, as in width, I would lean more towards a 28' Saber. Not to put down Sunsation but I like a more traditional look. Although, the Superboat gave that up with the 30' Y2K.
I liked the older Tempest design, but that's just my taste.

They are both very good choices. I have watched the Superboat in some real rough stuff at the Cape Cod Race and also in flat. I have never noticed it to porpoise or chine walk at all.
The sunsation will definatly have more ammenaties so if that is what you are looking for then ....
Do not think you can really make a mistake with those choices
