Default Oil Bath Hubs ???

Has anyone ever converted standard grease hubs to oil bath hubs on a boat trailer?
They run so much cooler but can you keep the water out?

No, they can not control the water. Stick with the marine grease.

Thanks Cord.

That is the reason I ask the experts on OSO.

I Have Sold 3 Trailer With Them And The S###k! One Trailer Brakes Got Melted The Cheap Plastic Cap Then Seized Up. Water Get In Them And Don't Bump One It Will Break Off. And Finally You Can Always Find A Bearing Cap On The Weekend! Safe Boating!

I hear the oil baths are junk too. Had a buddy that had them and he had a seal fail and toasted a bearing on a 8 hr drive. Lucky for him he had a tandem trailer and could limp it to a shop. I think a good marine grease and maintance is all you need.

I replaced 1 of my 4 wheels w/ oil bath because West Marine was out of stock of the grease ones for my trailer. over 1000 miles so far and no leaks and no water. The oil did turn darker though but I assume this is normal because it rolls free and no noise.
