500HP Carb Question
#1
A friend of mine recently had his 500 HP rebuilt. Its a 1996/1997 year. He's had nothing but problems with the carb. While inspecting the float levels today, he pulled the jets and found that there are two different sized jets in the rear bowl. The 500 HP has a single plane manifold, wouldn't the jets be the same?
Anyone have info on this?
Thank you,
Kirk

Kirk,
They were different size jets because of the single plane man. It had to do with fuel distribution. I forget the sizes and the specifics of it, but, yes I have read that those carbs came from merc with diff. jets.

Kirk/Dave-Here's what the Mercruiser manual shows for the 500HP502 with an 800 CFM Holley (#80466). PRIMARY- Port-81, Stbd-75. SECONDARY-Port-89, Stbd-93. The same carb is on the 465HP502.Primary-74 on both sides. Secondary-Port-87, Stbd-96.Hope this helps.--Lou
