Would these blocks make good marine engines?
I have a guy locally that wants to build me a pair of motors out of these aluminum blocks. I have been told that innovation built these motors originally for the government. Here are the specs I know:
660 cubic inch
J&E pistons
5.1 stroke
8:1 compression
crower billet crank
supposed to make 793 ft. lbs. of torque at 3800 rpm and approx. 750hp.
what do you guys think? Would aluminum blocks be a problem?

I know we built a all alumin bbc for a drag race car. It was a Dart block 474 CID I know that it had to fully warm up (160 deg) before it could be driven. I'm not sure how cold lake water would affect the cylinder bores but I do know that the bores do move around QUITE A BIT when the engine is heating up. Also how much does he want to build it for? Seems with that much cubic inch is should be up around the 1000 HP mark for a NA motor.

I would check out the availability of replacement parts, such as bearing, pistons, rings,etc. Make sure parts are still available at reasonable cost before getting into these. Also, what head bolt pattern and heads will fit on these. Are they a standard tall deck or something special that will require custom intake manifold, etc. Just stay away from obsolete pieces that cannot be rebuilt or have parts replaced easily.

Is that a Donovan block? I 've seen a few Innovation big inch aluminum engines and they always seem to run well. It's like a World or Dart block.

It is a Donovan block. He will build for 12,650 per side. Thanks for all the input. I am really just looking for something around 750 hp n/a and really reliable. Any ideas?
