Default Charging system??

While running the boat today I noticed that the voltmeter was climbing very slowly. It peaked out at about 16 volts. I have 2 batteries and a selector switch and the voltmeter did not change if I selected either battery or both battreries it stayed at 16VDC. Is the voltage regulator on its way out or is there something else I should look at?? Thanks for the help

The internal regulator went south. Mine just did the same thing. Pull it and rebuild it or go with one that has a higher current output.

I was thinking of going with a higher output alternator due to stereo amp so it looks like I might be doing it sooner than I thought.
