Working to learn as much as I can about my old 28SS with TRS's. It's got Bravo1 props now and I'm wondering if I should be looking for another, perhaps older (?) design that may work better with those old drives?
Specifically, 22p Bravo1's turning 4400rpm and 56mph on the GPS.
What have you guys experienced?

My suggestion would be more concern about how deep the drives are and the weight and design of the hull. Bravo 1 props don't always work the best when drives are deep. Sometimes they are too much blade. If your drives are pretty deep in the water you might even look at some used Mach Sterndrivers. They will never replace Bravo 1's generally but in some cases they can work well. Especially with modest power.

I had a 28ss with 280small blocks and TRS drives.
She came with 21p 3 blade cleavers and would run 63 at 5200rpm, but was a dog out of the hole.
We tried ø14-5/8 x 21p Mirages and ø14-1/2 x 21p Turbo Vectors.
About 60mph @5000 with either and much better out of the hole.
I think you will be better off with smaller diameter 3 blade props.
Never tried Zuperboats suggestion, that may lift that heavy stern and gain so speed too.

Great info guys! The Bravo1's are 4 blade. It never snapped to me about the deep X. I've got some 23p Mirages that came with the boat. Didn't immmediately toss them on because I'm only turning 4400 with the tired 383's in the boat now. Less blade may allow them to loosen up a bit and at least reach that rpm.

Tried the 23 inch Mirage's this weekend and with an additional 100gals of fuel from last time out the boat still picked up 4 MPH at the same WOT RPM. WOW!
