I am pissed off . This is the first new truck I have every bought and a dump truck ran into me. 2004 GMC Top kick it had 6,000 miles on her. Now the insurance company has added insult by trying to settle for less than what the truck is worth. They call this a fair market value. Man what a freak-en rip off insurance company's are. Has anyone else ever had this problem?

vagrant,
because the truck is new and the current year with less than 10k miles, they should figure the purchase price minus $.20 to $.35 per mile as the fair market value. especially since you are the claimant.
i would'nt settle for anything less. just hold your ground until they give. their policy is to low ball you first.

Yeah, the insult is they want you to buy "GAP" insurance to cover the difference between what your Insurance policy is supposed to pay, and what they really will in the first year or so.
Yup, that's right, insurance on your insurance........boy are we in the wrong buisness (ever see an insurance company NOT make a profit?).

Gap insurance I have never heard this term until my accident. When you need to have insurance for insurance that just plan wrong. The adjuster and I have been going round and round and not getting anywhere . Other than hiring a lawyer I am at a dead end.

I just went through this. My wife was in a accident, her car of less than a year. They offered 5k less than she owed for payoff. We did however but the GAP Insurance and they covered it. It sucks to have to buy insurance for insurance. I never understood the insurance scandals. You would think when you pay every month for many years with out having any claims, that you shouldnt have any problems getting covered for what ever happened. Unfortunately, it seems as if you have to prove to them why they should cover your loss.

Vagrant, that really sucks. I know you loved that truck too. I would be all over that dump truck company like white on rice until they paid me what they owed me.

Your right Brian I did love my truck. I finally felt comfortable towing the Sonic. That was the first vehicle that I ever bought new. This has been a tough year. I hope it gets better. By the way congrats on your new ride. You need to get down to Lake Norman sometime and hangout with us.
