36' Coyote - Anyone ever heard or had one?
#1
I bought the 1984 boat (picture attached) a couple of years ago. Long story made short, it was a liquidation on BentBoat.com down in South Florida, lost the bid by $125.00 only to buy the boat from the guy that won it a few months later. After 2 years of fixing everyones miss matched equipment and over all f--kups, it's a great boat and I love it.
Anyway, my understanding is that it is a 36' Coyote, I've heard that it is an early Sonic. Supposedly Sonic bought the molds way back when and in fact when you look at the lines on the early Sonics, there's no question there's a connection somewhere. Anybody have one or know anything about the Coyote hull? Ever seen this boat in South Florida?

There is one that I saw listed on Ebay at one point. It is located in Ft. Lauderdale and is listed on the boattraderonline.

I also saw your boat from bentboat.com. It looked good from the pics, but I did not go look at it as I was allready involved in my previous project. Looks great.

Details? I thought you'd never ask.
Bought it with to 454's said to be 500 hp. About three hours after buying, it ran a lobe off in starboard engine. Changed the cam, port engine started smoking. Long story made short, found piston pin in #8 starboard drifted out, cut a grove 1/16" deep, boat was still running pretty dam good but decided that was it, pulled both engines and totally rebuilt them, top to bottom. Went with Comp Cam, solid lifter (wish I hadn't) engines should be producing right at 500 hp not sure what they really were before.
Four bladed Hydro's sent off to Houston Prop, turned from 22 to 20 degrees and cut down 1/4" to 15-1/4", rpm's went from 4200 to 5000 just like Darin promised. Rebuild carb (Holley 4150 dual pumpers), alternators, water pumps, new fuel pumps, all the trim and drive pumps. Ran it for about 35 hours and sucked an intake
found excessive wear and signs of running lean. Pulled the heads on the port engine and have everything replaced again went with SS intake and exhaust SI racing series, TRW pistons, steel cranks, SS Bandit series 4" silent choice with B/B stainless steel risers, B/B Exhaust Manifold with black hard coat for saltwater. Put it all back together, re-jetted for the stock 71/80 to 86/88. Never ran stronger. GPS showed 71, but only ran them about 2 minutes there and never got it trimmed out, waiting to break them in a bit more before running hard for any length of time, don't think it will do anymore than 75 mph at very best.
Every wire connection re-done,previous owner never heard of heat shrink on connectors. As some said, it's amazing how bad people can f--kup a boat!!!!
Gaffrig gages (purple bezels), ICOM 402 VHF radio, Lorerance GPS. Drives, good old TRS, rebuilt them since buying just to know what I had. Borg Warner Velvet transmissions 1:1 Ratio C-71, 12 x 18 K-planes. 2 years and un-told hours and I love this boat!!!!!!!!!.
Here's a few of photos.
