How are dry headers set-up and how do they work?

I havent seen any posts regarding these types of set ups and am curious as to how they are done and how they work. I have a line on Hardin dry headers/exhaust for my boat and need to know if they will work.

You will need to know if the tailpipes of the dry pipes will fit through your existing holes in the transom or you'll be having to glass in the old holes and cut new ones.
Like Just Once said, you have a water jacketed header that connects to a water jacketed tailpipe, that extends all the way through the transom, and has a hose barb on the bottom of the tailpipe before it exits the boat to connect a water dump hose to. The very end of the tailpipe has some small holes drilled into it to spay the tip to keep it cool. I hope this helps.

All headers are dry, they are h2o jacketed as stated above. It is usually the tailpipes that are an issue. Dry tails are just that, the h20 never inters the exhaust chamber. They are h2o jacketed to keep the temps cool and there are several ways to dump the h2o. They are suppose to make slightly more HP. Wet tails are H2o jacketed as well but at some point a portion of the h2o inters the Pipe with the exhaust which make them much quieter.Hope this helps.

I talked to Gil marine about wet/dry exhaust and they told me the manifolds are the same and as you guys have stated the dry only has some water at the end of the pipe ...They also said you can convert dry to wet by cutting the end of the pipe off letting the water dump into the exhaust .....As Tonto stated my main worry is the pipes hitting the existing holes ...could be costly ...I have a 311 Formula with the Silent Thunder and was wondering if the dry would not be so loud if you dumped all the water into the platform ...

offthefront,
One thing you need to be careful with on FORMULA's is they have higher cut-outs in the transom for the silent thunder box. You need to get enough rise out of the tailpipes so you won't have a reversion problem.

Thats one thing that i have questions about ....I guess there are Stainless spacers available to get a drop on the pipes ....trying to avoid a major project..
