Default My Intro and my OLD Superboat!

Hi, this is my first post here, Ive been lurking for a while and just plopped down the cash to join. Anyhow Ive got a very early 24 Superboat, 1976. Actually its not register as a Superboat! Its a full race version, no interior under the deck two fifty gallon fuel tanks one in the front, where the foot well is normally. Its built with extra thick bulk heads as well. It was raced with twin Evinrudes until 1982 when twin Mercurys were installed. They are 150s with counter rotating and low water pickups, not bad for 1982? It ran the east coast circuit winding up in the key west nationals finishing second for the year. After that my dad purchased we ran it as a pleasure boat for almost ten years, it went all over Long Island Sound, even to Block Island. Its been in storage for a long while now with hopes of doing a full resto on it one day. It was raced as P-714 had a red hull deck stripe and bolster, we painted the hull black. As far as speed goes, when we bought it we were told that the best it ever ran was 73 on radar. Modified twin 150s turning 28" choppers at 7500 rpm, maybe?

Too cool, SB-G!! Welcome - sounds like you've already got a great boat and I'm sure these folks will be a great help with your set-up! Are you going to make any of the upcoming events/runs?

I bet you have the boat that was once called "Contagious", it had a pair of 235 OMC's. It was later sold to Nicky Cutro and raced as "Boardwalk", he rigged it with a pair of 150 Mercs. "Boardwalk" ran in class "V" (five).
I've got pictures of the boat as Contagious and Boardwalk, but dont know how to post them.
If this is the same boat, it won the world championship in class V in 1982-I just remembered I was there with them.
How much did you pay for this boat? Does it have the original engines?
Hope this info helps...welcome to OSO!!

I am in CosCob, harbor (Greenwich, CT). I think I am the third owner of the boat, the first was in NJ someplace, dont know more than that. We bought the boat in 1983 in the spring, from the people that were racing it. The name was "Raynas Ring". They did finish second most of the season and wound up second at Key West. The same people were coming in first and they second. I had asked why,I was told, they had more moneythen us!

I was told by someone years ago that there was a snap shot of it on the wall at Superboat?. The biggest problem with the boat right now is it has the original fuel tanks, I dont know that I really trust 1976 fuel tanks... It also needs stripping and repainting hull and deck. Unfortunately it wont happen this winter, family issues are arising that will take all my spare time till then.

Yes it still has the 1982 150 mercs with the low water pick ups and counter rotation, the counter rotating motor, has no gear shift, its in forward all the time. Mercury High Performance did alot of work in them, solid motor mounts plastic reed plates, re jetted carbs, ect. Also still has the original K-planes, and hydraulic steering. The boat was set up for a two man crew, but was converted to one man.

A lot of people will look at the boat and say why 150s and not just go for the 200s? I always gave the same answer, the boat was raced in a class that only allowed the 150s...

Sounds like a cool boat. Is that the one that is talked about on the Superboat website in the history section?

I may have been wrong, after looking thru some old photos, there use to be a boat named "Freddy" a 24 Superboat which raced in the mid 1970's with twin 235 Evinrudes. It was a burgandy color. The boat was P-172.
The "Lay it Out" boat is also burgndy could this boat be one in the same?? According to Superboat's web site, "Lay it Out" finished 2 in Kew West in 1994.
Lets here some more details, and pics!
