rebuilding Merc silent choice

Im getting tired of messing with this system...half the time it works, then it sometimes works then it doesnt work at all........there are no leaks to speak of....if you take the air cylinders off and hold them in your hand and push on them it is really hard to get the shaft to move initially....like its stuck......they may need replacing.....then the kicker.......Im winterising the boat last weekend and I see water coming out one of the flapper shaft bearings.....is it practical to fix or should I just trash the whole thing and go straight out the back with some mufflers...... and if I did what do I do with the Y pipes.........doug

I'm re-rigging some stuff this year and decided to ditch my silent choice. I'm tired of messing with it too. I had my mech. replace the relief valve and check the system several times and kept having the same problem. I don't see a lot of people being hasled about noise in my area anyway.
