Default Inner tie-bar needed???

I have a 1999 29' Baja outlaw with twin 454's with Bravo 1's. The boat has an external imco tie rod on the drives. Do I need to keep the internal one on the tiller arms? I have relocated a few things on the transom and the inner bar is giving me hell. I have been told that some mfg's don't use an inner if the boat has an external. Please advise...

I have been told not to use the inner while using the outer because it may work at one trim setting and cause issues at others.

Since you have a good external tie bar then you are fine not to put the inner one back on.

Does it have external steering? If so the inner is optional, if not the steering load for both drives winds up on the 1 gimbal & tiller with the PS actuator so it is not a good idea. The only problem with running both tie bars is stress on the gimbal ring / upper shaft / steering arms if the drives are not trimmed the same at all times.
