Default Marine engine builder Chicago area

O.K. Guys--

I need some recommendations on a good marine engine rebuilder in the Chicago metro area. I know of Ateco engines in Waukegan and will pass on that one. There has to be more so tell me about them. I need to have my 502's checked out.

Thanks in advance!!!!

Dave

P.S. I'd even drive a little into Wisconsin, Indiana or Michigan if needed.

I've got a very good one here about an hour southwest of Chicago. He stands behind ALL his work. We did the S/C 557's in our Fountain and had 3 seasons of trouble free running till a Fram oil filter collapsed during a COPS run last september.
Well, after 3 seasons they were gonna be pulled out this winter for a freshening up anyway.
Call Jeff Riss at RPM (Riss Performance Marine) 815-509-0927. The shop's located about 5 minutes south of Seneca Ill on Rt 170.

I talked to Jeff on the phone before. I called him regarding the problems with my 540. He was very nice and told me that he was real busy at the time(2 weeks before memorial day) and that it would be a few weeks till he could get to it. I was in a hurry and called ateco. They said they could get to it right away. Ateco had my engine from may till august. Three months for a rebuild. Put 10 hours on motor with no problems, but I think i will use Jeff next time. Heard good things about his work.

I am definitely staying away from Ateco. I have friends with nightmare stories from dealing with them. I will call Jeff Riss tomorrow and see what he says.

Thanks

Dave,

Jeff Riss rebuilt my motor from scratch after I blew it up end of last season. I was 100% satisfied with the results. The motor did develop a small oil leak behind the harmonic balancer and Jeff fixed it right away. I called, he set me up for that Saturday and he did the work right then and there. Not a single issue since. I HIGHLY recommend Jeff to anyone. He is out in the middle of a bean field yet has a yard and shop full of Cig, Fountain, Nortech, Eliminator, etc.

if you want something a bit closer try calling Fast Times in Morton Grove...they built me two shortblocks and i put a beating on them with no problems. They also built....or should i say re-built an old Hawk 650 blower motor for Cig Willie a few years back on his Cafe and it ran nicely.......if you plan on having them do any work for ya i would get it to them ASAP as they are VERY HEAVY in the race car scene and get busy fast...

I have not heard good things about Ateco and had a bad expieriance with Fast Times I think they get the car thing but were a little lost on the marine thing.

My best sucess has been with Dixon in Gurnee, IL. Ray built me blower motor 4 years ago and is freshening it as we speak.

My $.02
