non-turbo??? The intercooler hose blew off of my 2003 6.3 PSD once. 0-50 was about 1 minute! I don't know about the 7.3 but the turbo is the a$$ behind the gas!!!

It should do it going down long hills.

It would depend on gear ratios, but overall I don't think you'll be happy. I have a stock turbo 7.3 with 3.73 gears, and could probably do it on a long enough highway, but that's about all it would do in stock form, IMO. (I towed an 85 mistress on steel trailer once a few miles on the interstate, but didn't get much past 65 mph.) Keep in mind, your 11K boat on a trailer is closer to 14-15K.

Most performance mods I'm aware of work with the turbo, and lacking one, your engine might not be hop-upable. But, it will be interesting when knowledgeable people like Boot chime in.

you can get lots of power from a non turbo upgrades are much easier and cheaper in stock form it will tow fine just slower on the hills my dad towed a 12,000 lbs plus fifth wheel for a few yrs in the mountains of pa he was on the avg about 5 mph slower on the hills compared to a 460 but got twice the mpg nicest part is very limited electronics add a banks turbo kit some better exhaust and have lost of power with no computer headaches

Forum on Ford IDI 7.3s
You would need a 4.10 gear/maual and you might get to 70 MPH on level interstate.

BTW; I pull 5000 lbs w/7.3 Turbo IDI w/ATS exhaust, 3.56 and manual.

You are dreaming.. 75 to 80 with 11,000 lbs? My friend has a wrecker with that motor in it and I don't think it will even DO 75.....

I have a 7.3 turbo diesel with a 4.10 differential (4-wheel drive) and it pulls my 357 SR1 well enough but I would not expect 75 or 80 out of it. There are some long gradual hills where I tow it and it works to maintain 60 to 65. I can't imagine it running 75 to 80 without the turbo based on my experience. I'd be concerned about stopping at those speeds but maybe traffic is not as congested where you are.

Good luck.

my buddy used to pull his 46' race trailer with one. I have no idea howmuch its wieghed but it was frikkin heavy. It was alittl rough up long slow grade hill. In fact it would "sit" at 37mph going up the really long steep ones.

It wsn;t bad though considing how horribley overloaded it was.

That's a lot of weight for a non-turbo diesel, and it better be a level State like Florida. I just towed a similar size and weight boat from Ohio to NJ. And that meant using RT80 in Pennslyvania, a very long mountainous highway. I have a 2002 Dodge 3500 Dually, Cummins diesel 475 ft lbs of torque. Some of those long steep grades slowed me down to 65 mph, I imagine it would be almost undo able in a 7.3 non turbo.

They can tow, maybe not as fast as you want though. I bought an even older one. It is an 84, 6.9. It has a 5.38 gear. Before I bought it, ti was used to tow a 30,000# fifth wheel trailer down in Tennesse. It's got a top speed of 60mph with that gear, but it will run theer empty or loaded. I just use it around the farm as a fuel and seed truck. The engine has got almost 240k miles now and still running strong.
