What is the best material to use to seal a hole in a Transom. I'm working on my MiniHawk. The hole is drilled for my drain plug and I need to seal it. Do I use epoxy, 5200 or what?????

Use that Loran you ripped out of your Cig...

3M makes that Epoxy that mixes in the tube as you squeeze it out. Stuff is so tough it can be drilled and tapped!!

I've got 5200 and some Marine-Tex here at the house...Just wondering if that will do or if I need to go to the Store!!

If your are sealing in a drain plug fitting use the 5200, the marinetex is not pliable enough to retain a seal. If you are filling a hole use marinetex or west system.

I'd would use a polyester resin with microfiber or epoxy, one of the two. I use 403 or 404 west system microfiber.

I guess that I should have been more specific as to what I'm trying to do. I want to seal up the cross-section of wood (2" or so) from the outside of the boat to the interior. I know that I should coat the holes for the drain plug apparattus with 5200, but would the 5200 be sufficient to seal up the wood as well?

I'm glad you cleared that up because I was going to ask why you were doing away with the drain plug!

I would use some fiberglass resin.

At Sonic we coated all the wood in the cockpit with it and even when we took apart upholstery from 1981, the wood was like new. Now, of course, it's all Starboard.
