LEAVE IT THE HELL ALONE!!! the E40D trans behind that is not a very good partner to that powerstroke when the engine is stock, let alone with upgrades. I have a 95 F-350 and am on trans #5 with 276,000 wich is as about as good of a record as I have I have ever heard with that trans. I just got a new F-550 and the jury is still out on the torqueshift 5spd auto.

You can do a 50 HP chip but no bigger unless you do exhaust.
It helps alot with towing.
Like hillbilly said plan on breaking the tranny. They make alot of upgrades for this issue, so find a good tranny guy.

Phil,
Look up Bully Dog Technologies. They got there stuff together when it comes to these diesels. They have upgrades for engines, tranny, and exhaust to maximize power and not hurt parts.
