Went to the boat show in Baltimore yesterday.
Took a good look at a 29 Fountain that literally had components falling off it and had many other areas that look suspect in terms of long term durability.
Took a good look at a 33 Profile (big time “custom builder”
. The boat was covered with stress cracks in the cabin and cockpit liner (could have been other places but the cabin and cockpit was the only place I looked). Cabin door also looked like a piece of junk. Since I bought my boat I’ve been disappointed that it has one rattle in it when I hit big waves. The rattle comes from the latch on the cabin door. The door is solid but the latch rattles a bit. The entire door on this Profile looked flimsy enough to fly right out in big waves. The salesman was a hot looking girl that thought I was really impressed with the boat. I told her I was surprised that a brand new boat was covered with stress cracks. I don’t even think she knew what a stress crack was.
I go to 4 boat shows every year and I have yet to see something that makes me say "wow, I should have bought that".

I know what you mean 29!
By no means do I want to say anything negative about other boats, bacause it pisses me off when I'm on the receiving end...But My point is that I have yet to see even a fraction of the **** that people bash Baja's about. In fact, the same things we get bad press about, I see occurring on other's boat more often. I can attest to this personally on my two Baja's and there are quite a few at my marina. I was taking a close look at a '97 36 Outlaw on the rack next to mine yesterday. I got to talking with the owner and he let me nose around his boat. The boat was flawless in every way. No Rattles, chips, blisters or anything else. I see this guy use and abuse his boat every weekend much the same way I do, so that's got to say something.
I'm not going to mention brand here, but I also saw something at the marina yesterday that shocked me. There was a boat sitting on a rack nearby by a very well respected boat manufacturer that had the fuel fill fitting and the fuel tank vent fittings mis-installed almost 8 inches away from the tooled recesses that were in the deck. It made for a horrible appearance. You can plainly see where they were supposed to be and were 8 inches away!

Believe it or not, I go to boat shows to check out all the big cruisers more than the go-fasts.
At any rate - Offshore Performace was not there (Sonic, Cigarette)
Full Tilt had a lot of Bajas and Formulas (302, 29 Outlaw, H2X, 25 Outlaw, 232, etc.)
Extreme Offshore was there (28 Sunsation, 26 Hustler, and another big-ass Hustler)
AM/PM Marine had the 33 Profile and the new 28 Profile CAT.
Also a 29 Fountain, 26 Velocity, and 29 Scab.
That's about it for go-fasts.

I don't know about the Baja rep this year. Last year he was there at Baltimore. It was he that fessed up to the issue with the pre-2001 29 Outlaw stringers popping (actually he said the re-design was implemented mid 2000).
