Who ever has speedmaster II"s, are the lowers on yours polished or painted? The lowers on mine have some kind of bondo substance filling the gap at the crescent (see pic) and the previous owner painted over the bondo with black paint. I would like to polish them, but I'm not sure how to blend in this part of the crescent into the rest of the bullet since the bullet is narrower than this part of the casting

Sounds like you have TRS lowers with an added-on nose cone.

Hmmm, interesting. Like Ed said, is it a TRS or is the back taperd around the shaft.
If it is a II, it may have been damagedn and fixed. I dont think IIs were ever made in non-crescent lowers, like IIIs, but it could be a possibility. Then someone bondoed the crescent in. Anyone know of non-crescent IIs?
Otherwise all I've seen were bare aluminum.

No they are speedy II's. The housing is tapered back around the propshaft. This filler piece seems to be wider than the housing, so I am wondering if I can grind it down and smoth it out to polish it. Also once it is polished, what can I do to keep it from oxidizing. The boat stays on the trailer when ever I am not using it.

nice drives, rare! how high is the X? TRS metal is thin, if you spend the time to DA or sand the case then polish you may run the chance of thinning the metal, not the same metal as #3s or higher. keep them black less hassel and look better over time

I thought that Mercury Racing always said that polishing the lowers on SSM's slowed them down and that the surface being a little rough helped break them loose.
