Default Planning Key West. Catamarn transport?

We had a blast there last year - want to be there again for the races this year.
Scheduling my vacation for the Wed's the week before Thanksgiving, until the following Wed's, I want to go to St. Pete beach, ( was born there and, then married there) for a few relaxing days, and then head to KW for the races.
I remeber last year a few people talking about taking a commercial boat (express cat??)from somewhere on the west coast of Florida for the transportation to KW. Any info??
I'd rather leave a rental car in St. Pete (or wherever) than drive the whole way to KW, and just have the hotel waiting ( hotels are cheap there).
I would be OK heading back to St. Pete after the races on Sun. This would give me 2 days to recover from KW before heading home for Turkey day.

So, any info on the boat ride to KW - or any other (cheap) ways to get there from St. Pete?

Hi - There are a few ferrys that run from Ft. Meyers and Naples. They cut off about 2 hours of car travel. They run round trip $75-95.00 - not too bad. There is the Fast Kat and the Fast Express. One is run by the Hilton. If you look online under transportation for Key West you should be able to find them. Let me know if you need any other help with the Keys! Miss Holly

I took the Key West Express from Ft. Meyers in Nov. for the finals and it was pretty impressive to say the least. The only thing I didn't like was that it added two extra days to my trip stuck in Ft. Myers hotel that wasn't close to anything. Depending on taxi's for everything really sucked and chewed up a lot of time and money. If I had to do it over I'd skip the ferry, fly straight in and rent a scooter.

Last year I flew in, taxi to the room on Duval St., and walked the whole week - never even rented a scooter ( probably wouldn't have been capable of operating one anyway ) and it was fine.

Sean H - I'm gonna have to look for an open seat in someones poker run boat...
