Can 280 K plane be straightened?
#1
I have a port side 280 K plane that is not perfectly flat. I parting out a wrecked boat and looks like this tab may have took a hit and bent it ever so slightly. I may notice a slight bend in the tab cylinder. Can these be purchased separately or fixed?

You can buy the parts separately, but they cost big $$$$
I would look for used parts or this will cost you too much to salvage. I wouldn't be surprised if one new plate was $500 I can't guess at the cylinder.

Take the cylinder off and go to a hydraulic shop. If its just the rod thats bent, they can replace and repack! I had a local shop replace the packings on one of mine last summer. Cheap!

That must've been a 'slight' bend. Usually, a cast aluminum tab (or virtually anything cast aluminum) has a small window read: tolerance to deflection, and just snaps.
It's great that you've found other options for the plates and Fred could definitely set you up with a pair of nice stainless cyls. They are much nicer looking than the stock issue in my opinion
