Default Marine Mechanic Rates????

I am curious to see what the going rate is for a decent marine mechanic. My boat is at a local yard and they are charging $60.00/hour.....Any input is helpful.

Marina's here are getting $85/hour, independant shops are $60-80 and there are still a few guys around that operate out of a van that charge $45/hour.

The real shame is the mechanics only get $12 to $20 per hour usually with no benefits !!!

Shops around here are $75-95/hr. If he's good, jump on $60.00
The hourly rate doesn't matter if the mechanic charges excessive hours anyway. Basically go with someone you trust!!!!

T500hp is right on the money, for dealers in the central Va. area. There are a few of us independants, that don't have all that big shop overhead, that get $50- 70 per hour.

around here the crappy ones charge $80/hour and charge you for all the parts at 100% markup while they guess at what's wrong and try to fix it by bolting on more and more parts till it acts better.

when I find a good one, I'll let you know what they charge.
