Took the boat out today with the new jack plates and external pickups and it ran good.

Fresh water, 103 degree's and some humidity, almost full tanks I ran 114 mph at 6600 rpm's. I have the motors set at 1.5" above the bottom and it feels about right. With some weight out of the boat and some better conditions (maybe some different props) I should be able to post some better numbers. I was still pretty happy with the 6mph gain.

How Stable is ur 28' running at those top end speeds like that? Does it chine walk at all? How about at 80? I am trying to decide whether to look at buying a 28' or a 32' with outboards (if that is smart or not I don't know). Any info out there?

dbhammer,,,I have had both, 28 and 32 with outboards, both boats are very different,, The 28 is a rocket ship, accelerates like you are shot out of a canon, the 32' just eats up the rougher water though, a lot depends where you are using the boat.

At 80 a 28 Skater is basically cruising. You can literally run that boat at 100mph for many miles in predictable water. I have yet to find any flaws other than the normal true tunnel hop from 50 to 70.

I got a friends 1994 28 Skater that needs a new powerhead on the stb side if anyone is interested. Motor apparently lost fuel pressure.

In the 50-70mph range true tunnel cats are beginning to air completely out. The boat will porpoise up and down through this range as it creates air pockets. It is not really a big deal once you get used to the boat. Above 70 air is passing completely through the tunnel.

as far as the tunnel hop my 30 O/B spectre does the same thing...once you've located you correct trim range its non exsistent. with ZERO trim my hop range is like 60-80 so i add a little trim and no hop. also only time she hops is when the water is flat...typical bay chop of 1-3 and NO HOP...good luck and you'll have a blast. i would spin as big a diameter prop as you can...15-15 1/4. i running 15x32 3 blade merc props 62-6300 rpms @ WOT with a best so far of 105.6
