Default 32 w/ OB's open space in back?

Was looking at "Tunnel Vision" and noticed that there is
a opening in front of the engines right below the hatch.
Why is that? Are they all like that? Or just a perticular year?

I would assume it gets wet in there.

Some of the outboard boats were built that way. Not as wet as you'ld think.

After buying my 32 OB I said the same thing ! It looks like skater forgot to finish off this area , I'm in the process of making a Fiberglass motor well that skater should have built in the first place .

I thought the opening was real weird when I first saw it but i tell you I have not been in any real ruff stuff yet but I have not gotten a drop of water back there yet. One thing that really bugs me is that my stereo guy put my amps on the front wall of the engine well (behind rear seats) so when anyone looks in the gap they see 2 monster amps sitting there waiting for the taken.
Hopefully activatorf1 comes up with some great ideas for the dead space and I could pay him to hook me up.
