Well, today I was out testing some more... Got top speed up to 107 mph at 6200 rpm. Prop slip is getting better. I am playing with motor height and trim. It seems the prop needs to "bite" with the motors trimmed in before trimming it out. Doing this procedure has gotten me better results. Tomorrow I will try spinning the props inward and see what happens.
These motors definetely have an RPM handicap, but torque is great and acceleration is unbelievable. I am still using 34 X 14.5 labbed 3 blade cleavers. I will pick up my lightnings from Marty at Diamond Marine next week and test some more.

Well, where do I begin? The props (lightning´s 32 X 14.5) are great for acceleration and midrange. But as I expected, they come short on the top end. I hit the rev limiter at 103 mph, I have the new 300 XS optimax, which limit at 6400 rpm´s . But the acceleration is unbelievable.

For the top end, I moved to a set of 36 X 15 three blade cleavers (labbed) and I´m currently hitting 110 mph at 6100 rpm, with room for improvement. I am at 1.25 inches above the sponsons.

Hope this helps¡¡¡

WOW that is impressive, your top end numbers will be 112-114 I think on its best days. Your slip numbers are still high with the 36" props. If you can run 1.75 above the bottom I think you will be there, thats great for those motors. That is about right on with the 300 promax's (not the X motors), and with a lot better fuel economy!! Where did you get the 15x36's by the way?

Well, in the states, mercury racing does not make a 36 pitch, however, a friend of mine that also has a 28 skater had them custom made by a guy in Australia. I am getting a set of 35 X 15 four blade cleavers for everyday use... the top end should be close to 110 .
