skater 28 with lightning props
Has anyone tried lightning E.T´s on a 28 skater? On mine I seem to need a bit more bow lift when using my 32X14.5 3b cleavers . My motors are the new 300 XS ´s 20 inch 1.62 sportmaster gearcase. I am running -1.5 inches at 6300 rpm for a top speed of 104. The boat feels like it has too much wetted surface.
Input please. Anyone has rigged a 28 with these motors? |
You can pick up 2-3 mph just by turning your props in. As far as your setup, I have zero experience with that motor. Are those speeds full of fuel, people, coolers, etc.? Is this your first cat?

This is my second cat, I owned a 24 skater that topped 115 mph with a pair of 2.5 os racing motors.
On the 28, the speed is with low fuel, one passenger onboard. I believe the cleavers are not being efficient at all. Prop slip is 14% (way too much) . I am going to try lowering the motors a bit, maybe to 3/4 above the sponson. Any additional info will be greatly appreciated. |

I have the motors on 5 1/2 jack plates (CMC). I was at 1.5 inches above the sponson and the water pressure did drop to 10 psi, triggering the guardian mode. still at that height the prop slip was high and the motors hitting the rev limiter. At 6400 rpm with 34 cleavers I should be at 109-110 . Something is not rightĦĦĦ just can´t figure out what it is. These motors have a tremendous amount of torque and should be able to push this boat to 110-112 mph.

I kept telling myself the same thing when my boat wouldnt run what I thought it should. Where are you measuring from, above the lowest part of the sponson? Are these props new? Labbed or regular? Also what diameter are you running? I am running 15x34 3 blades, the best slip I have seen is 7%. I had a pair of 14.5x34 3 blades and they were about 5-6 mph slower on the top end.

I am currently running 34 X 14 1/2 labbed 3 blade cleavers. I measure the height from the point right in front of the bullet of the gear case. At 1.5 inches above, the boat runs kind of flat (with too much wetted surface), and trimming it only reduces water pressure.

you know i was wondering what those motors were going to do on the 28s ..my 28 with 300x runs 115 low fuel and light on gear. and i have run the new 300xs motors on two 30 skaters just did not feel to have the same power as my 300x. i just thought it was the bigger boat not so shure. there is a dealer in washington that has a 28 with the same 300xs motors curious what speed he is seeing. i will try to find out on monday. im running 14.5 34 3 blade merc labbed finished cleavers jim
