Amazing how much more presence a 30 has compared to a 28.

CcanDo 07-20-2007 07:45 AM

No wonder it's slower!

ziemer 07-20-2007 10:58 AM

That 30 makes that 28 look more like a 24. :D

CcanDo 07-20-2007 11:48 AM

You're right, it might be a 24 ! It might even be a 21!

JIMKID Motorsports 07-22-2007 08:32 AM

thats why im moving up people say two feet isnt much. i say you have to see them together you should see the two in the mold side by side its just bigger

Rik 07-22-2007 05:17 PM

The 30' is actually what other manufacturers would call a 31' boat. It is 30'8" and the beam is only 2" narrower than a 32' Skater.

9'2" beam (110")

The 28' Skater is 8'4" beam (100")

They are way different in size just as the photo shows them to be.

Dd24skater 07-23-2007 06:24 AM

That 28 looks tiny!

Dd

dreamboater 07-23-2007 06:45 AM

You would never see that difference on plane...the 30 would never catch up :D :D

Until it gets really rough! My buddies 28 bounces around alot more in rough slop. We cruise 80mph side by side through our local rough spot, he has to drive aggressively and work it, we just sit there and smile. But, yes, you are right, he pulls me on top end in smoother conditions.

I'd really like to see the 30' with a pair of 300x motors.

The xs are not as strong as the 300x and I don't know if they are as strong as the 300 ProMax either. Very similar but 300x's would make a difference.

I would like to see that too, and I totally agree.

Although, I am enjoying my fuel economy!!

JIMKID Motorsports 07-24-2007 12:37 PM

OK, I'm hi-jacking my own thread. I need details on this idea? Has it been done before? Are you sure you want to go away from OB's? My buddy has a 30 with inboards, and I've wondered if it's possible to convert from OB to In board. But yours is a 28, isn't the extra weight of small blocks and drives too much?

btrain 08-16-2007 03:55 PM

ExtremeSkater - Your 30 looks great.

Does anyone know the weight difference between the 28 and the 30 similarly equipped (either hull only or rigged with the same outboard's)?

Thanks.

I Love The 30 Canopy Skater In Powerboat Mag

what a sweet boat....that would be my boat if I had the option for any(and all we can have is 30' slips on our lake)....except merc 700's and nxts.

Xchoke03 02-04-2008 10:15 PM

I have a 32 with a pair of 300X. I just purchased a 3rd 300x and am getting ready to rig her up. I have heard alot of negativity about a center OB but the few people I spoke to who actually had Skaters with 3 outboards did not have anything but great things to say.

Any input is appreciated.

120MPH would be nice.

waterboy222 07-09-2008 08:14 PM

X, how how are you coming on this project?

Hustler40 11-08-2008 05:53 PM

BTT for a friend

davidmercury 11-09-2008 12:24 PM

for what it's worth at this late date, if you have'nt done it by now,do it Xchoke! You won't regret.

Xchoke03 11-09-2008 04:38 PM

I have not as of yet. Thinking of strapping it on over the winter. I need a new Mechanic, my friend Phillip will point me in the best direction in my area. In all of your opinion what type of money do you think this project will take. I have the jack plate and engine in hand already so I will need Gauges, new controls, rigging, the new fuel supply for 3rd engine, etc. etc.
Do you all think I could get this done under 10 grand or more ??

SANTA CLAUS is coming :ernaehrung004:

Xchoke03 11-09-2008 08:31 PM

Yes he is !!! but how much will Mr. Kringle need to rig up a 3rd weed wacker with all the bells and whistles ??

p.s. GO GIANTS !!!!

TeamSaris 11-10-2008 03:07 PM

XChoke...give my dad a call, he won a lot of races throttleing Larry's boat when it had tripples. 518-644-3080 ask for Jason he can point you in the right direction for props and setup

activatorf1 11-11-2008 07:44 PM

F Your Giants !!!!!!!!!!!

LARRY

Xchoke03 11-11-2008 08:02 PM

LOL, BIOTCH. Those pidgeons of yours were given every opportunity in the world. We gave them the sloppiest game we could and still made it look easy. What a coaching staff those Eagrits have !!!

Pidgeons had 3rd and 4th and 3 yards to go with seconds left, Coach of the Year thinks " HHHMMMM lets run lil Brian Westbrook into the most dominate Defensive player in the NFC not once but TWICE !!!!!!!...........Bawoooohahahahha ......... NOT !!!

Giants are the Team to beat my friend.

Xchoke03 11-11-2008 08:09 PM

Back to the Matter at hand. What is it going to cost to hang the 3rd 300X on the 32'. What are your educated guesses ??, Larry ?? Phillip ??
Come on guys I know from talking to you two that you are not in favor of it, but I am just looking for some educated thoughts, I am far from certain i am going to do it. RunninHot, FastFun, Pro1, etc etc give me your thoughts on what you think it will/should run

Thanks in advance
Patrick

TeamSaris 11-11-2008 08:16 PM

Setup right with 3 strong 300s, i would guess 115-118 constantly. The acceloration will blow you away though

offshoresteve 11-11-2008 09:30 PM

Call Peter. I am guessing 115-118. I would probably keep a spare drive on hand. The center eng takes a beating .
Doesnt matter, I would still do it with your boat, it will be Bad Ass!!

activatorf1 11-12-2008 08:33 AM

As you know I'm not a big fan of three . We all want more speed and for me if my Hunk of **** runs close to 100 with 2 300 Opti and does it without mech failure for many years , that is perfect for me . If you really want more speed , sell your boat and buy an I.O Skater and the only cap on your top end speed will be your Checkbook .

Larry

Xchoke03 11-12-2008 10:10 AM

The wife closed the checkbook when I bought the this boat so an I/O Skater is a few years from now. Anyhow guys I am not asking for performance numbers I am asking what you think the COST will be for rigging the 3rd considering fuel supply, controls, gauges, etc. etc.

p.s. Larry talk to me after your baby is up and running for 2 years and a luckily a 3rd new 300XS gets dropped in your lap that you would not be a little curious to strap it on.

I am far from sure, just weighing the options. Just thinking about the cost of the project. Thanks guys !!

davidmercury 11-12-2008 04:40 PM

Have you installed the center pod inside the rear tunnel for the center engine yet? That will help deflect the beating that the the center outboard gets. That is an extra $1200 to have someone qualified do the glass job right.
You will need to add a steering wing plate for the center engine, Have the existing tie bar cut and divided up for the new triple set up.
You might want to have low water pick ups installed so that you can get the engines up and decrease the extra drag from that third engine dragging it's gearcase and skeg through the water and increase performance.
Changes to the wiring, fuel system, altering dash layout to accomodate the extra gauges take time and care to make sure that everything is right. Swapping out controls is $$$ too. For what it's worth I spent a total of $3500 for the center pod and all other parts for twin to triple conversion. I saved probably $2-3000 by doing it myself.
It sounds like a lot, but in my opinion it is definitely worth it because of the greater acceleration and the 10+ mph increase in top end.

Xchoke03 11-12-2008 05:07 PM

The center pod already exists there, Thanks for your response !!

activatorf1 11-12-2008 05:40 PM

I'm not even done my boat yet and already want to buy a 40 Classic

TeamSaris 11-12-2008 08:16 PM

I didnt know that it had a pod. The center motor takes a beating w/o one yes, but isnt exactly a disaster. The pod may hurt rough water performance.
