Skater trailer brakes
#1
Does everyone have the electric brake drums on there trailers? I have to replace mine they are frozen and dont work.I was thinking of going disc on the trailer.Has anyone modified or upgraded from drum to disc and ditched the electric set up.Im guessing between hydraulic pump/electric and backing plates rotors, and lines I would be around $2,000.00
Are you guys having any problems with the electric set up?? I boat in salt water if interested. Who makes the oem skater brakes?

I know my trailer is 99 but is in brand new condition. It was overhauled but it doesnt take long for the salt to eat the parts up.I was wondering why they used an all electric system? Im assuming because skater is in fresh water country?

The new trailers have disc's on them mine have had any problems and I dunk it a bit. I always make sure to rise it very well though. I guess there just is no good way to do the brakes if it is gonna get dunked in salt water.

My tub has got twin dexter 10,000HD duallys. Electric
Drums. I replace the backing plates every two years
at $180 each. Takes one day a axle. Requires approx
a 6 pack of BUDLITE.
I swomp the whole thing in saltwater.

At that price im all in. Even a 12 pack would be in the budget! hey even if i get a season or 2 it would be better than doing the entire conversion.

Find out what ya have for axles. Dexter???
Then eithier go to your local trailer place to get cost
or do a search on Google.
They maybe cheaper online!
They come loaded with pads and all.
6 bolts and two wires and ya on to the next.
