What rpm's are you spinning?? I run a 1.35.....Between Gator and Skater40 you will get the exact info you need. They have tried EVERY combo!!:cool-smiley-027:

Don't have the exact answer to that. 140 was around 5300 last April in cooler temps and last weekend with 115 degrees 125 was about 5200. Part of the problem is at Lake Havasu during a holiday weekend it is hard to run longer enough at WOT because of all the traffic and before that we have had issues with rigging and motors and could not run WOT. How have you been John? How is your Open Cockpit boat doing? If you ever want to trade for a Qtr Canopy model let me know.

125 at 5200 is a 10% slip that sounds ok

140 at 5300 is a 1% slip I dont think thats right

At 10% you need to spin the motors to 6100 and you should see 147

Does general opinion find 1.24 requires more torque/horsepower than 1.29 or 1.35,regardless of prop size and pitch? Subject to the answer being affirmative,it would appear the 1.24 has greater gear pressure,bearing load or other parasitic drag,which requires additional force to overcome.

What other factors cause the 1.24 to be least favorable?

Ratio alone,the 1.24 offers more flexibility VS. lower ratios.

When in dought call Peter. 36 takes much less power than a 40. You should be able to turn 1.24 with a 1000 hp.Prop thickness makes a huge difference. I would look at prop speed more then engine rpms. Put some solid lifters in that puppy and crank up the power. Under 6000 is for V bottoms. If you want to drag race than 1:35s will do the trick.I have run both and with the new 1200 hp cnc mercs i feel like im running 1.24s again.No props are created equal.

John like bill sayith., you need a solid 1300 hp to turn 1.24 with a correct prop pitch vs prop speed.All cats have a sweet spot for the correct prop speed.Thats what happens when you offshore run in a 36 skater on a pond.
