Forgive the derail here guys but I am after a lesson on the evolution of the fast cats...and my question really isn't worthy of a thread.

Not that long ago (depending on age I guess), quad engine mosters like this Revenge were the elite of the offshore circuit. I've also seen two 46 Skater with quads -one being the late Big Thunder.

In a very short time, quad's were gone and yet the speeds maintained or exceeded on twins - was this due to technology in hull design just being that much more advanced or just more reliability with big hp?

Good question. It's all About power to weight ratio. The more power you can produce at a given weight the faster you should run. The Quad engine monsters of the nineties were amazing and loud! But with performance of newer power packages they have become obsolete. Unfortunately I believe the excessive wieght of Big Thunder's engines and drives contributed to the tragedy once it's bow launched in its accident.

This boat was AMAZINGLY fast when it ran, but it always seemed to break down. "Skate" I believe aerodynamic and balance also contributes to the performance!

Oh yeah, and a big thanks for the pics!

The boats were big, fast and all very different and unique.
That's not very nice, Ive always considered myself a relaxed, humble person.

I agree with the Giant Tool part, and I liked him in Miami Vice and a few others. Love him, hate him, or whatever, but...He set Miami back on the map and did help the offshore industry get some good exposure.
