Not knowing much about anything, it's difficult to offer best advise. However, your question is logical, in so much that there must be a sleeper deal under some rock. With that said, unless you KNOW the boat your looking at, expect surprises. Even then, EXPECT surprises. Granted, with time, money and expertise most problems can be mitigated. Of course, you still have a used boat.

So, for me, I would talk to Skater and get the best rigged price on on a new 28 and also ask for the price to rig the 2006, 28 w/ the 300x's that is in classified.

Either way, you have a NEW boat that will have modern rigging, ready to use with warrantee.

Gonna call him tomorrow. Do you anything about the boat? Power, year etc.

saw some pics, looks brand new. My buddy saw it and said it looked like it just rolled out of the factory. I think it's a 95 or a 96 with very low hrs, indoor heated storage. 2.5's it's a open cockpit race/pleasure setup

Does the setup matter?

Are you looking for a 2.5 boat, 300x, or 300xs??

The boat mentioned already with the 2.5's looks to be a really well kept boat. If you dont mind testy outboards, the 2.5's are probably your best bet for performance and balance in rough water. The 300x will be the fastest on the top end but would need 15" mids to handle as well as a 2.5 boat.

Not picky on power. Just want a clean boat that the tanks have been taken care of. Obviously I don't want something thats gonna need power anytime soon. Another words, no 2.5's with 200 hours on them.

Don't you mean 2.5's with 100 hours on them? If they make 150 hours you will need to rebuild them. I just got done repowering my motion becasue my old 2.5's blew up.

If I was looking for a new 28 I would be looking at ones with 250xs or 300xs. Way better fuel economy and dock manners.

I was just being extreme on the hours. 150 hours is max outta some 2.5's. I would like to have xs's but the price puts them up there.

Theres a 28 with TRIPLES listed on boattrader! Ive done just about all the research you could possibly do on the 28 skater market. Theres one on Screamandfly.com that has full paint, great interior, etc but no trailer.. Register and do a search there, you'll find it in the classifieds.. it was the best deal I could find..

The xs's are worth the extra money. My first motion had 300x's and was fast but they don't idle at all making it really hard around the docks. The 2.5's are the most fun to drive but hard on fuel, lowers are not as reliable as the xs's and have to rebuild every 100 hours or so. There is one in the classifieds here that seems like a good buy with 300xs's.
