Well I tried to get insurance when I was 27. Actually, I just got a few quotes and it was well out of my price range. About $21k/year! but that was for a 130+ cat with zero cat experience, no home ownership, no insured cars (work vehicles only) and being under 30. But I turn the dirty 30 may 1st, own a home and zero claims in 5 years now. I'm hoping it'll be reasonable to get into one. There's a HUUGE price jump with a cat that will go over 110 and this one fits the category I'm shooting for. Always wanted a 30-32 because the 28 feels a 'tad' small for 4th of July weekend on Grand (as I'm sure you are ALLLL to familiar with). But the width of the 32 and the outboards are the perfect combo for me.

I have a 25 Talon with 260/300 drags. It is perfect for the 50,000 acre lake I live on. My partner has a 32A with twin 588ci. motors running 141mph. I love the 32A,but don't need or want to run 140. With more set up I should be running in the 110 to 113 range. Plenty fast for me. With twin 300 outboards you should be running close to 100. If I decide to move up the 32A would be on my short list. Check with Russell Massey for insurance. I have no prior cat ownership, but they had no problem insuring me for under 1K. My cat is paid off. I am 43 if you were wondering my age for rates. Ive checked the insurance on a 32 and 36 with even 500's and its to high for me so i was wondering if the outboards were considerably less for us poor folk.

Well its not so much it being "outboards" that make it cheaper as it is the hull value and top speed.. Outboards dont have the capacity to run much over 115 even if theyve been REALLLLLLY worked on.

Insurance rates are more a product of your experience with cats, and what speed they run. Of course, the cost of the boat enters in if its a half a million dollars boat. But one insurance carrier told me over 120 mph was where the rates really started to jump. Good luck

My diamond marine modified 2.5`s (340ea) pushed My 28 skater to 122 First Pass... 95deg day in the Everglades with 1/2 tank of fuel.If I had played with a lot more props probably would have seen 126-128. Instead I got a hold of some Bad Gas and blew one motor @26hrs!
