I don't believe the Opti weighs that much either, its just a 3 litre with a few extra parts, maybe you were looking at Verado??

waterboy222 08-31-2010 02:00 PM

Who knows.. I typed in mercury 300 weight and thats what popped up..I thought that seemed significantly heavier!

rchevelle71 08-31-2010 02:49 PM

Here is the weight of a Opti 300xs...........

Weight (lbs / kg) (L) 505 lbs. (229 kg) (XL) 517 lbs. (235 kg) (XXL) 534 lbs. (242 kg)

Here is the Verado, which is a 4 stroke, would just be WRONG to mount those on a 24 Skater..............

Dry Weight * Lightest model available 635lbs / 288kg

From a *top speed only* stand point, who would be the winner in a 2 stroke 300 vs 4 stroke 300 shootout?

2 Stroke hands down.

couldnt you run a larger prop on the 4 stroke because of the torque and get a higher top speed?

I know nothin of the two, just a curiousity gettin to me!

As of right now the sportmaster lower is not offered with the 4stroke so that alone is a big fator in the speed difference. Also the midsection on the 4 strokes are not heavy duty enough to take the abuse of a 100mph boat.

Great info, I was wondering what the differences were... on paper, a a 375 verado looks mighty enticing, but in reality it wouldnt work!

Not to mention the ability to run higher rpm with a 2 stroke, and not damage anything.
