how reliable and what is the maintenance on these 2 stroke motors?

THE 3.0L engines (i.e. 300 promax, 300x, 250xs, ect) are very reliable. The gearcase is the week link in all of the high performance outboards. But if you change gear oil on a regular basis they seem to hold up fairly well.

Don, What do you consider to be "a regular basis" for gear oil changes?

I am sure I am a bit conservative but I change my gear oil every 2 to 3 times out. Everytime I drain the oil I do find a little water in them. While this seems like a lot of gear oil rememeber the RH only holds 1.25 qts and the LH only hold .5qts.
