Even if they did finally fix all the stuff that was screwed up on this boat (I have no idea), the boat is still FUGGLY and needs to be repainted and a new interior IMO.

There are some bad paint jobs out there and it always wonder what someone was thinking when doing the design work/layout... It also amazes me when the owner of a 'fugly' wonders why the boat wont sell.

1. Hire a surveyor and go look/test-drive.
2. Plan on paying cash because no one will finance it.
3. Plan on getting a third job to pay insurance.
4. Take a driving class so you don't kill yourself or others.
5. Save $$$ for when it breaks (they all do)

Answers to some basic questions...:drink:

If you're looking at the overall expense of owning a 140+ cat, paint and interior will be small change..

The paint is ugly, yes. But wrap it for a couple years, put on some new skins and call it good..

The snow will EVENTUALLY melt..

Answers to some basic questions...:drink:

But PBJ ...I don't remember askings those Q's ... but those are valid points. THANKS for your what-appear-to-be SERIOUS points.

1.... I think that I can check-it-out myself.(maybe AFTER getting some info out-of-you-people !! ...LOL) 2... I will just sell some of my AAPL stock. 3.... insurance ? ...I own a V-drive hydro and Hydrostream NOW(no insurance) ... is there some type of requirement on a boat like we are discussing here?. 4 - driving class? ... I have more common-sense than to go WOT until learning how to handle it. Parts breakage? ..goes without saying. Are drive-parts the most prone?

HOTair ..... I think you are capable of a SERIOUS answer ...TRY HARDER ... LOL

wb .... the EXPENSE of all this? ... YEAH .....that would be nice to know. I am a past drag racer that has kind-of gone-off into a Pro Street car ... that will be a drive-out bracket car. And in doing so ... it will be a money-maker. Am I going to get RICH doing it ? ... NO.

BUT ... I saw a topic where some-people are spending 1200$ a weekend on fuel on some of these boats. Just FUEL? Am I ready for that? .. hell NO.

302Sport 01-04-2012 10:56 AM

The fuel is the cheapest part of owning the boat, so if you can't afford that, then there's no sense even considering it, unless you just want to park it in your driveway

barrete1 01-04-2012 11:23 AM

This boat was a friend of mine's when it was repo'd last year. I've ridden in the boat when it had no issues & it was a comfortable cruise at 110mph, but I haven't been in it over 120. I would agree the paint is hideous, but I've seen stuff that owners loved that I couldn't bear to look at for more than a couple seconds, so to each his own. If the current dealer has done all the things he claims & has a good reputation, I'm sure the boat is fine. I would agree that $65k is probably a more realistic value for the package though. Definitely look into insurance. It will be a big jump from what you're used to paying & that's if someone will write a policy for you.

Funny story about the arrogant prick that owned it in GA. Those are the guys that give the rest of us a bad name. Cheers...

No doubt. Every day I go out I figure a minimum of $400 in fuel and that gets me about 65 miles of running (think about how far that is in a 100+ mph boat). That doesn't include depreciation, maintenance cost, rebuilds, breaking sh!t, insurance cost, etc... $1200 a weekend is easily exceeded when you add it all up!

BTW, you're a fool to run a 140 mph cat (or any offshore IMO) w/o insurance if you'll ever have a passenger onboard. These things are dangerous and the potential for serious injury is very high in these boats! One mishap with one of your passengers and you're in the poor house...

Yup. Hydrostreams are small and fast. I couldn't imagine not having myself, my passengers or bystanders covered in case of an accident.

As true as can be + I've driven Hydrostreams. It does in no way prepare you for or react/drive like a fast cat. It's a bit like thinking, if you can drive a car fast, hey you can go out and do the same in a boat. Not so, very, very different. Ignorance is your worst enemy.

302Sport 01-04-2012 06:19 PM

There's also the common sense factor. Just because it has big motors doesn't mean you have to rip on the thing. There was a local guy this summer that bought a skater that could run 160mph and I don't think he ever went over 120 in the thing because he didn't have cat experience. It doesn't mean he shouldn't have bought the boat. Practice makes perfect Nd as long as you take it cautious and slow you should be all right. Just make sure you fight the urge to mash the throttles when somebody goes by.

Common sense plays out at any level of experience. People don't just wake up one day and say " hey I'm gonna get me one of them Skat-eer boats" and if they do I pray that they have the sense to do it right and obtain the proper training and insurance. Kinda like going out and buying a Cirrus loading it up with your family and practicing till you get it right LOL. If this dude is really serious that's great. I'm sure many will help him along the way if he goes about it in an educated manner.

How the hell do you know about that???? Those things are the worst and I have picked up more of them in the last couple of years than any other airplane. Every one is pilot error.....

POWERPLAY J 01-04-2012 08:23 PM

Dad was a pilot. I am a pilot.

Some of YOU PEOPLE just go-out and THROW BOMBS ...and don't explain yourself.

I know PLENTY of people with boats ....none with OS stuff ... and NONE of them have insurance and have never had the need for it. It is diff here in this line of boating ? ... then 'SPLAIN yourself ...I will listen.

How much do you spend on fuel during a busy weekend? ... and what are the insurance costs ? ....and how many have had claims? ...and what for?

POWERPLAY J 01-04-2012 09:05 PM

2-800 bucks every time I go out in gas. Insurance is a must for you and passengers. Also if you hit someone or something else. Cat insurance is expensive.

So you know plenty of Idiots with boats:lolhit:......Insurance is a Must with Expensive, Fast,Offshore Cats or V's, not just for the boat,The Liability!! Call one of the insurance co listed on OSO, tell them your experience with your hydrostream, you want a 140 mph Skater.....let us know how it goes:grinser010: Ins rates depend on boat, speed, your experience ect..My 28 outboard Skater does not burn much, 30gals+ hr going 90mph.....$150hr fuel and $40 in oil so $190 hr(I usually run 4 hrs+ in2days on the water so about $800 in a weekend......won't find that with a Most offshore boats especially one with twin blower Motors.I have 24yrs experience Owning and operating Offshore boats(9 with Skater), Coast Guard Licensed Captain, $2,800 yr for ins.

SS930 01-05-2012 06:21 AM

Honestly, if you're not able to deal with the $1200 for a weekend in fuel cost (never mind the greater expense of everything else) and aren't kidding about not carrying insurance with the proposed offshore, you really, really shouldn't even be considering this purchase... no joke.

KEVLARKAT32 01-05-2012 06:34 AM

what is a ballpark on insurance for a 32 skater that runs say 100 with cat exp ?

At this point, this is a joke. A bad one. Mr. Fiberglass is not interested in listening.

You wonder why folks are all over you? There has been some good advice in this thread so far, by people who KNOW WHAT THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT, you just don't seem to want the help or even listen. Running around without insurance and the proper experience is very much looked down upon, and that is understandable, simply because it is reckless and stupid. Then you make it a point in an argument, that you boat with several others that don't have insurance as well, like that will make it allright. Just because they haven't had an accident, yet, does not mean you won't. What are you going to do if you wreck, maybe damaging 500k+ worth of boats at a PR + maybe injuring or killing someone when it happens? You think you can just sell more shares and pay for it that way? WRONG!!!

Christ.... I'm done.

A few months ago I was quoted $3000 on a Motion @ 110mph.17yrs high perf V hull experience, no claims, good credit and perfect driving record. 6mo lay up.

302Sport 01-05-2012 07:36 AM

Call stacey at wakezone. She has a program and they will insure just about anyone. If you have no prior cat experience it doesn't matter wether the boat rubs 100 or 150, you are put into the same group. She said they will insure just about anyone as long as you take the tres Martin course. Now for cost she said to figure about $4k a year for every $100k worth of boat your insuring. So a $100k boat would be about $4k a year, a $200k boat would be $8k and so on....
