I think its worse to pay it month by month through the winter, than to just write a check in the spring and be done with. It makes it seems a lot better when you don't have to make payments on a boat when the snows blowing around

32-DD 01-05-2012 08:47 AM

Not jaking anybodys post but i have a 1/4 canopy version of the same boat that i would part with for the same money he is asking on ebay! that needs nothing!! has new 950s and TOAD paint, new interior the boat is ment... dont know if their is a nicer one out there in this body style (not saying their isnt).sure several people on here now or have seen the the boat its been a jacksonville last 3 years ....

You wonder why folks are all over you? There has been some good advice in this thread so far, by people who KNOW WHAT THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT, you just don't seem to want the help or even listen. Running around without insurance and the proper experience is very much looked down upon, and that is understandable, simply because it is reckless and stupid. Then you make it a point in an argument, that you boat with several others that don't have insurance as well, like that will make it allright. Just because they haven't had an accident, yet, does not mean you won't. What are you going to do if you wreck, maybe damaging 500k+ worth of boats at a PR + maybe injuring or killing someone when it happens? You think you can just sell more shares and pay for it that way? WRONG!!!

Christ.... I'm done.

BUT ... I saw a topic where some-people are spending 1200$ a weekend on fuel on some of these boats. Just FUEL? Am I ready for that? .. hell NO.

GET INSURANCE. period.

Pontoons ramming pontoons isn't the same thing as offshore boats. You lose a drive and the boat hooks at the start of a run and you scrape the pretty paint off the side of a million dollar carbon fiber MTI, they'll be out for blood.

Battery switch fails and sparks a fire onboard while parked at a marina. You buyin everyone new boats out of pocket? Ya know 230 gallons of 110 octane burns before you could even get off your barstool..

Don't risk yours and everyone elses good time by being "that" guy that skrimped the necessities to get a pretty boat.

Lower your price point so you can afford to get EVERYTHING you need to go with the purchase.. That includes fuel, the right size truck, INSURANCE, piggy bank setup for when (not if) parts break, etc.

My 24 insurance is $3000 for 6 months of use.
$500/mo insurance
$500/weekend in fuel

Thats $2500/mo just to be floating on the lake that I live on. That doesn't include boat payment (if there is one) and all the parts that I break.. and I have OUTBOARDS!

The costs of an older Skater with sketchy power are extraordinary.

On the insurance thing, it's not the boats you really should be worried about! It's the people on and around your boat!

Some drunk b!tch knocks her teeth out while putting her makeup on while underway, some stupid F cracks his skull open while not holding on, or someone gets tossed and breaks his neck (I've seen all these things happen, and then some!) out on the water in your boat and your bills can accumulate over the cost of custom paint job and the new MTI it was sprayed on REALLY, REALLY FAST! Unless you run your offshore on a pond, it can get rough and violent out there and conditions are always dynamic.

It takes very little for people to get injured, not to mention fatal injures unfortunately aren't that uncommon in this sport. Hell, just look at all the fatalities we had at Key West this year in only a couple of days... and these were pros running in a controlled environment with full safety gear! Add in some inexperienced idiots (and booze) and I would hope you can see why you need to cover your azz with insurance in a high performance offshore boat, especially a 140 mph 32' cat!!!

I know all too well about people getting hurt on board.

Just ask the girl who is missing a pigtail from the left side of her head.. The remnants of it were still wrapped around the alternator the day I sold my sunsation..

We hit a wave, back seat caved in, exposed the front of the motors and YANK.. scalped.. Got her back to the dock, her friend took her to the ER and I waited for the call from the lawyer.. Luckily it never came..

thumper038 01-05-2012 04:56 PM

WTF I have been paying insurance on mine at Markel for ???, Well since 2008 I parked it in the garage and it has not seen rain snow or shine since, I could save all that money.!!!
And then the 100 year old tree would fall and crush the garage the boat would be smashed parts of the trailer would fly and kill the neighbor kid cause the little puke was watching the tree fall :stupid:.
Bam I getting my azz sued off and I aint even boating:eek:

Drives/boxes/steering $15k
Motors/trannies/exhaust $25k

So your looking at around $65k if you want to keep it the way it is, but if you want to start changing paint and interior this isn't the boat for you because no matter what you do to it, it will never bring $100k.

I'm saying way less than that, but you guys know how cheap I buy and sell my stuff for.

Cool boat, but IMO it is an antique and that needs to be considered for as long as you own it. The only thing on it that is timeless is the hull.

It's a cool boat, but in the big picture these days, insurance and finance will kill any big dollar deal on the boat. It is a cash money boat at any price, and insurance will be high.

That means the boat is worth less than the price of the rigging.

It is still worth what it sold for when it was a repo in real dollars.

There are other nice skaters that can be bought for just a few dollars more than asking price on this rig.

Just my opinion, but how would I know?

.................................................. .......

FIRST ..... to the above comment - NOTHING is further from the truth.

SECOND .... to the people who have answered my questions and to the few people who have sent me some supportive PM's -- GENUINELY ....thank you. To the bomb-throwers and the type that have the attitude(how dare you come in our sand-box and ask some legit and valid questions? ...and maybe ruffle a few feathers) ..... TAKE A HIKE.

What is this .... some kind of Brittany-Spears internet site ? So ....I want to know what the costs involved in this hobby are ....and I get lots of BOZOS that just want to throw cream-pies. What ...do some of you clowns get-into something without knowing the total costs involved ? OBVIOUSLY ...you have never run a business where you have HAD to be a bean-counter ....OR IS IT that you just stumbled upon a trust fund that requires you to spend as much money as possible ....like a drunken sailor? I don't know how you made your money ... but I earned AND "worked" for mine ...and the majority of my net-worth - I made a risky investment that paid-off.

I was at one of the KW SBI races when I overheard Bob Morgan saying in a interview .....It is all about the glory. To Bob ... may he RIP ..... I would like to have some fun ... but if I have to pay 500$ a month for insurance .... and 800-1200 a weekend for fuel .... NOT to mention the cost of the boat, the maintenence of same, slip fees, etc...ETC....

..... THAT is not "fun" for me.

Mr. Fiberglass, you just posted that you cannot afford $500 a month in insurance and $1,200 a weekend for fuel (This 32 with 950's is Not for You). Then start off with a slower cheaper Cat or preferably a V, with a pair of 525's. Insurance will be a fraction of that of Cat ins. And fuel burn will be 60-90 glas. an hr depending on how you run.Several people here have given good advise.........take the advise and Buy a Offshore Boat!! BTW Running Hot owns a 40 Skater with a pair or 1300hp Blower motors, and lives in a Mansion Full of Strippers.....He is Ferrr Reeel!!!
