I think its worse to pay it month by month through the winter, than to just write a check in the spring and be done with. It makes it seems a lot better when you don't have to make payments on a boat when the snows blowing around

You wonder why folks are all over you? There has been some good advice in this thread so far, by people who KNOW WHAT THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT, you just don't seem to want the help or even listen. Running around without insurance and the proper experience is very much looked down upon, and that is understandable, simply because it is reckless and stupid. Then you make it a point in an argument, that you boat with several others that don't have insurance as well, like that will make it allright. Just because they haven't had an accident, yet, does not mean you won't. What are you going to do if you wreck, maybe damaging 500k+ worth of boats at a PR + maybe injuring or killing someone when it happens? You think you can just sell more shares and pay for it that way? WRONG!!!

Christ.... I'm done.

BUT ... I saw a topic where some-people are spending 1200$ a weekend on fuel on some of these boats. Just FUEL? Am I ready for that? .. hell NO.
GET INSURANCE. period.

Pontoons ramming pontoons isn't the same thing as offshore boats. You lose a drive and the boat hooks at the start of a run and you scrape the pretty paint off the side of a million dollar carbon fiber MTI, they'll be out for blood.

Battery switch fails and sparks a fire onboard while parked at a marina. You buyin everyone new boats out of pocket? Ya know 230 gallons of 110 octane burns before you could even get off your barstool..

Don't risk yours and everyone elses good time by being "that" guy that skrimped the necessities to get a pretty boat.

Lower your price point so you can afford to get EVERYTHING you need to go with the purchase.. That includes fuel, the right size truck, INSURANCE, piggy bank setup for when (not if) parts break, etc.

My 24 insurance is $3000 for 6 months of use.
$500/mo insurance
$500/weekend in fuel

Thats $2500/mo just to be floating on the lake that I live on. That doesn't include boat payment (if there is one) and all the parts that I break.. and I have OUTBOARDS!

The costs of an older Skater with sketchy power are extraordinary.

Because they have a parachute. As SOON as you start offering "failsafes" for pilot errors, pilots get sloppy.. Who needs a checklist, this things got a parachute! lol..
