There is a guy Dale with screen name Rayzor on Scream and Fly who has it. He also just bought a 28 with 280's and 15" mids. Repowering that with custom 15" 300xs's.

thanks. was curious about it. wondering what they found as they ran it and how it performed compared to the current hulls

curious how the 15" mids will change the set up from the 20" standard. guess he'll mod the power head too huh.

don't think you can, have to be made. guy in the doug wright owners section has them on his 30 DW canopy I think.

Mad EFI makes 15" midsections for 3.0 liter mercury outboards. You can cut oem mids down but it is a better option to use the mad efi mids. They even have a mid that used a 3.0 powerhead and a 2.5 lower since the 2.5 sportmaster does not normally have as many issues as the 3.0 sportmaster.

As far as the original 30 skater prototype from what I heard it flat out hulls the mail. I think it has naturally aspirated sterling motors that make around 800 hp each and I think t ran around 160 mph!!!

What I read is that the boat he bought had a one of a kind transom built for 15" mids. That is why he is doing it. He also stated that owning other 28's with 20" motors versus the 15"s other than the cool look he would not recommend spending the money and did not see any gains in speed.
Maybe a little handling due to the lower center of gravity.
Also on a standard 28 like mine if i were to go to 15"s my motors would be very close to the water and using it the way I do I do not think that is a good idea since I do not boat on a lake.

I think $1400 per 15" mid is a lot to pay for "cool" lol. and yea it'd be close to the water LOL.

that prototype was hauling azz. what did the 338 run at the shoot out again??? and what was the hp in it???

167 but I don't think they had the setup quite right. They said the motors were 1200 each but that seems high for single 4.0 whipples.
