While waiting for comments back from Mercury, I have done a little research. My filters are Racor 3120R-RAC which have .2 PSI pressure drop and 120GPH flow -pretty low drop and way more flow than an 300 needs. The Opti's have low pressure monitoring/warning built-in. Mercury is stating in what I can find on-line is "properly installed" filters are acceptable. 350 Verado literature allows external filters.

I like this some actual facts and research! Fuel filters have saved me twice once from bad fuel the other from a bad tank........

no doubt skate.... the old canister style that were in the 28 worked when the tanks failed in it.... I will have them in the 308!!! that's a nice security blanket for sure!!

As long as large non-restrictive filters are used, I can't image them causing an issues. It's cheap insurance, especially on Skaters given the long history of tank issues.
