how does the ignition work?

once the batteries are on, you can push the toggle downward to start?

how are the engines turned off, by pushing the ignition upwards?

I may want to use this same system

I use a 3 position toggle switch ... off > on > momentary.
I run the switch with off down, middle run, lift for start. Pushing down for off seems natural, like turning off a light.

Sounds really nice. My 308 came with aircraftstyle pull out then switch on toggles for power and separate momentaries for ignition. Kind of cool but not very secure! I have turn off the batteries and lock the hatch!

I would be careful with all that on one switch. If someone bumped it up they might accidentally start the motors. I always pull the kill switch on all my boats when I'm stopped and people are in the water just in case.

the toggles in my 28 you have to pull out to turn on and off so they wont get knocked off or on very easy... are they similar to that?

Yes , lift and lay switches. Lift and Lay up is on. Then lift start momentary toggle under it. Release. To turn off Lift and Lay down.

I'm just sticking with KISS. Just going to run the stock Mercury harness with a key switch.

If you are using toggle switches how do you activate the choke? I'm considering rigging my without keys?

Got the wiring complete, all smartcraft, with a mercury gateway to the Garmin 5208. Nema 0183 link to give the vessel view speed from Garmin. Added battery switches and power posts, provided for battery crossover if needed, new batteries. Interior next.
