28' Skater is 8'4" beam
30' Skater is 9' beam
32' Skater is 9'4"

This is fact , my 1988 32 a is 8 ft 6 inch wide . Go to NADA boat value site or come measure mine or the this red one . I hope you guys are referring to a 32 b being 9 ' 4 " if not I don't know how to reply

Major diff between 32 a and 32 b

Don't know about anyone else but I'm talking NEW or something older that is still in the current line up.
Looked at your #37 post and it does say 32 a. Been in several and sold a few of them but don't know the beam but it is narrower then the new 32b which would be the size of your 88.

Flightplan 04-13-2014 08:42 PM

32A=102" Beam or 8'5" according to mfg data

Blume how are ya?
Call me crazy but I've got six inches of 308 Skater hanging over each side of my trailer 8'6" trailer and everyone I meet on these narrow Arkansas highways dodges me! Also when we added 10" to the middle of a 308 hull to make the 338 we ended up with a 10' 6" beam by the time the deck was finished. I'm pretty sure the 30 has a 9'6" beam.

Sam your close, Louie's boat started out at 9' 4" beam and ended up just short of 10' 2" beam. The 308 I think measures 9' 4" but for internet conversation it's got to be what's on the Skater web-site or you get your butt handed to you.
I'm doing well and I hope Will is continuing making progress and all is good with you and your family.

This thread is about a 32 classic (32a)... they are 8' 6". PERIOD!!!
Blume, didn't you sell Skaters for years???

The newer 32b is wider at 9' 4" iirc.

noli 04-14-2014 12:09 PM

.

" ...you get your butt handed to you " too funny Blume! :)

I measured the width of a Skater trailer bunks for a 32B, and the maximum tunnel width on a 32B is approx 51", when measured under the chine, inside the tunnel

Most 32a will run right around 95-102 with twin 300X OB's, the 300XS will be a few ticks slower. A 32b will be significantly slower with OB's. The 32b was designed to be better suited for I/O's. OB's will work on the 32b, but it won't be too much of a performer.

Since you seem to only be talking about 32b's above, your numbers are VERY optimistic for a 32b/ twin 300 OB combo!

Well your wrong on the classic. Classic is a deck design not a model...........ie: 32A or 32B.
Classic deck or flat deck.

Blume, was a late 80's 32A 8'6"? Yes or No?

When they went to the B model in the late 90's it was widened, but its a simple question, was a late 80's to late 90's 32A 8'6" wide????

I agree with Scot, but what do I know. The original question wasn't about current production boats, it was about older models that ceased production in the late 90's. I don't think anybody is arguing that a current production 32 is wider......

I went back over the whole thread and the majority of the thread is about the 32A. Sport the 32A is the width you are saying it is and I needed to read the whole thread before commenting. The 32A and 32B can both be classics and it's confusing at best. Flightplan congratulations on your new Skater it's a good looking boat.

SS930 04-15-2014 09:56 AM

Adam,

Peter built the 32a into the 2000's. The two 32a's from CT you probably see at Claudio's and the Pavilion all the time are both 2002's. With that said, I don't know when the last 32a was built. My guess is if someone had cash in their hand, Peter would still build them a 32a today! :D

Thanks Blume. I couldn't pass it up. Do you have someone that could finish the rigging, and baby these 300x's back to life? I bet your shop is swamped right now.

Brad Zastrow 04-16-2014 08:43 AM

My 1999 32 was 8'6" wide. The boat in the first post is clearly 8'6". It is no wider than the trailer that is 8'6" legal size limit.

I would pull your suction return fuel tank covers and look at the tanks asap. this is what mine looked like and they were not suppose to be epoxy tanks (I checked with peter before I purchased) and they were not suppose to have had any ethanol ever put in them. I believe harry when he said he never put any in them, but I do not believe any stations when the advertise non-ethanol gas!

I dont understand all the fuss about fuel tanks. I found a couple of these at a pretty reasonable price. I'm golden!:party-smiley-004:

:lolhit::lolhit::lolhit:

those will be better in the long run, if the give you a problem just replace them...but how many 6 gallon tanks will you need? and that's and antique right there isn't it?

Flightplan 04-16-2014 11:16 AM

I will of course put a Mercury Racing sticker on them. No way that Evinrude crap is going in my boat.

I found a Mercury Digital Diagnostic Tester (DDT) of the vintage I need with Smartcraft software and manuals for about $650.

Is that a pretty good deal? No way am I paying $2k, but seems like a must have tool for these X's and XS's.

Not bad. I sold one for 500 felt like I was giving it away. Felt like it was of limited use.

Good news, good news! I finally got a little break in the schedule last night to play with these motors. I pulled all of the plugs and man am I a happy camper. All very clean and wet with oil.

My theory on this is that the motors were still in "break in" mode and running very oil rich prior to being stored.

I shot several drops of 2 stroke oil in each hole just in case, waited a few, and the hand turned the flywheels. They both turn smooth as silk. I am very stoked. I believe the rotating assembly is going to be fine.

Maybe I will be as lucky with the fuel and oil delivery. Stayed tuned.

Based on the age I would rebuild the mechanical fuel pumps to make sure there are no issues in those motors getting fuel. If the lean out say good bye with a blown engine. Based on age the diaphrams are probably weak.

KEVLARKAT32 04-23-2014 03:26 PM

Good call DR ! I would go to Home depot and for 199.00 they have a very nice Milwaukee remote camera with slim head camera with LED . Pull plugs and take a peak inside each cylinder , cheap insurance plus you'll have a thousand other uses for it .

Do you have pics of the blocks, most proly looks new!

Flightplan 04-23-2014 05:51 PM

No pic's Noli. They look brand new in every way on the outside.

Good idea on the scope KK. I think I need one of those scopes.I've always wanted one, had no idea you could get one at HD. Have you ever looked up the wife's....no...never mind. HaHa!

KEVLARKAT32 04-23-2014 06:20 PM

Yes in tool corral , My 6 year old girl and myself were having fun checking it out yesterday . great for checking out dental work and nose hair they say !!!

besides the 1000 other uses it is dirt cheap insurance for piece of mind for you right now. Don't leave home without it to purchase a used engine again !

Double Rigged 04-23-2014 08:42 PM

FP, I would also consider having the injectors checked. Since the motors have been sitting such a long time. I just took apart one of my 300x's and found some marks in the two cylinders that are minor but may need to be addressed. Also found that the hose barb fitting that used to couple the fuel line to the motor was only 1/4" ID for a motor that needs 3/8" fuel lines. Definitely not a good thing. There was no way of knowing this without pulling the heads to look at the pistons and cylinders.

noli 04-23-2014 09:07 PM

"...found some marks in the two cylinders that are minor but may need to be addressed..."

DR, what can one do to fix the minor cylinder scratches such as ones that you've found ?

.

KEVLARKAT32 04-23-2014 09:25 PM

DR ,
With this high resolution Milwaukee slim head Camera with LED your now able to peek inside after every boat ride WITHOUT removing heads . For 199.00 its dirt cheap insurance .

Seems like the Smartcraft or VV would have reported a leaning condition if the 1/4" was causing a starvation issue. I guess it could have been ignored. Good find.

I agree, fuel pumps and injectors will be gone through. I really think I need a DDT in my shop, and one of those scopey thingies...just for shets and giggles. lol.

Taboma 04-24-2014 05:32 PM

I found a USB Endoscope Camera with software online for less than $20.00! It is 10mm in diameter, has a 2M USB lead with 4 adjustable brightness LED's 1280HD resolution and waterproof. It is amazing! Just hook it up to your laptop and you will have a pretty large screen view of any hole you want. The only drawback is that it is from China.. I don't have a manufacturer, but if you Google it you'll find it.

FP, what's the latest?

Flightplan 05-06-2014 08:46 AM

I haven't had much time to play with the Skater Noli. I did buy me a Mercury Digital Diagnostic Tester so I reset back to full break in once I have downloaded all pertinent data. Now I have to learn how to use the dang thing.

The only boat I have on a lift so far is the Bennington SSR, and we have only been out a couple of times. I have a contractor doing an addition on our boat house, and re-rigging all of our other lifts, and he is driving me nuts. He was supposed to be done last week of April at the latest. I guess he does not understand the concept of wearing out ones welcome.
