Nasty...the 32 DW "pleasure"(:rolleyes:) canopied boat with 400r's ran 124mph...the second poker run addition is being built. such a small hull compared to my 308..but they are FAST!

The DW's are not small, the one that was just built has a cut down deck like a raceboat but it is a full 32'. My new 32 is approx 7" taller and is a big. I think a lot of people will be surprised of it's size. I also think my boat will be a great side by side comparison with the new Skater 318, which is a beautiful boat!

the length difference I could tell right away... I have only seen Kaps PR in person and a couple of the race boat so that's what I was using as a comparison. it sits lower than mine by quite a bit! With the additional 7" it will def make a difference!

Are you getting a full interior or using the Sparco seats?

My boat is getting a full interior. We are going to be using light weight front buckets and a full length bench in the back. I wanted a bench seat in the back for my kids in case they want to lay down while we are anchored. There will be side panels as well as the top of the dash being finished (Full interior). This will be a pleasure boat not a race boat. I do think the weight should be less than the Skater considering Skater's wider cockpit and larger windshield.

I just had my seats out cleaning it up...JEEEZUS they are heavy! gotta be some lighter options out there. Are the new style Skater is using lighter? I sure hope so! lol.

Yes the new seats are 50% lighter I bet. Big difference. Also rear bolsters are cored and lighter.

The old Berrycuda 32 canopy DW that I ran liked the 4 blades as they were faster than the 5 blades on that hull. It will be interesting to see what Ktrons hull likes. The DW and the Skater are to completely diffrent beasts.

Doesn't seem like these 400s are making much of a difference, or its still early in terms of the proper setup, and prop. To go from 600 hp, to 800hp should have a significant gain in mph, and it seems like its only 6-8 mph faster. I'd love to hear some feedback from people that have first hand experience with these new motors on the cats on the 30-32' range.

^^^^ there are as many boats in the pipeline waiting to come out with the 400's than are already on the water. So far in the press there is the DCW32, the Skater Nasty's 308 not yet in the owners hands but run @ Mercury and the Skater 3208 that was previously triple 300x's (not XS prior to re-rigging the 400's)

400's are more weight than the 300's so you have to consider lbs/hp for the entire package

Anyone out there with a 28 that would be interested in a really nice Superformance Cobra, plus cash trade? 351w stroked to 402ci with an Imagine 8 stack injection system. Here is a link to pictures. Using the speed calculator, the extra 200hp (factoring in an additional 600lbs in weight), gains you 9mph in top end.

You cant really use the 32 skater, because its way to complicated to go from 3 motors to 2 and have a fair comparison, or basis.

I think the 28 DCB gained roughly 10 mph- but again, is that an every day 10mph, or a setup for top speed number?

The 318 skater has never been tested with any other motor- so once again no benchmark.

DW 32- many boats with 300's have been around, I've heard 115, now 124 but a light basically race set up- that'd be a gain of 9mph.

Seems to me that the real gain is only 6-8 mph.

I believe we are on the same page here. There is performance in the engine but there isn't enough of them out there to say that it is the "Go To" engine of choice.....but its always good to say you have 400's on the back vs. 300's....

any of you guys that are in the shops or know the guys in the shops should be getting some feed back by now from the CC's. they have quite a few running them...some harder than others :lolhit:

With all my know which is not much:readinghelp: I am sticking with 300's for now. The word on the CC's is that the old 350hp Verado was faster than the new model by a few but ran higher octane. So the difference between the old 350 and new 400hp was only a couple of MPH on the big boats.
However new 350hp verado gets better fuel mileage than older 300hp verados. I think for guys with big money to spend they want the 400hp badge on the transom whether it is faster or not.

I feel confident when done my 30 will run very close to a 400 powered boat for a lot less money and handle better in rough IMO. :boat:

On a different note- the new 400 ROS, which is dry sump, puts out the same HP as the 400r? It would seem that there should be SOME hp gain going to dry sump, and some hp gain, having the exhaust blow straight out the back, above water as mercury is calling it. That motor has some visual wow factor to me. Looking forward to seeing it run this weekend in Xcat

Yeah me too. Spoke to Daren the other day. I am sure the DW will be faster than the Skater but my point is same boat for boat with 300x power vs 400hp verados. Hope to hook up with him on FL West Coast.
The DW race guys say the 32 runs 118 with 280's. 120 with 300xs's so what's the big deal with 400's at 124.
I am sure a 300x is more than 4mph faster than a stock 300xs as my boat is a perfect example of that.
So how fast would a DW be with 300x's???
I bet somewhere very close to 124.
But if you got 50k for motor package and like the warranty aspect it is not a bad option.
Lastly if you guys have been following the 400 swap over on S&F that boat has been done for a few weeks now it has been very quiet. I can tell you they are still working on it and were far from happy with the results thus far vs the 300x.

Hey 28, I was down in Key west when they unveiled the new 400ROS and spoke with the Merc guys about it. They said it gained about 8 to 10 hp in the change. The exhaust is different and I would imagine it has less mass to turn. Powerhead is the same but the prop horsepower is up.

It's amazing what you can put a 28 skater through.

Ron , I just finished complete re-rig gages cables all wiring, mids, clamps, tuners, bezels, rub rail, trailer, and oh yeah almost done with engines. Should be interesting to see how it all works. Cant wait to be back in action its been a while.
