I built the trailer for my Cigarette, so why not a new one for the 28. Ordered some metal and got started. This is the trailer under it now.

Looks great. I tell you: you Crystal River guys have some good operations up there.

Added the rear bumper / drive guard. Using a Brake Rite EHB so a Heavy Duty 2 5/16 coupler was selected. Thanks for the kind comments.

I'm using a Miller 251 with a 30 A spool gun, and 100% argon. I wonder why I pick the Hot Summer to build this.8-)

Great work, I'd be interested in knowing the cost savings of doing it like this yourself over buying one from a manufacturer

Onetime 09-06-2014 07:50 AM

Who's coupler is that. It looks like it could be a bolt on replacement for the surge coupler I now have. Wanting to switch to EHB also.
Nice work on the trailer build.

kr1276 09-06-2014 08:50 AM

Awesome as usual Jim! Now I know why you didn't make it last weekend. You guys were missed

I wanted to go.. But had a long time committed trip that was booked before the Black Pearl, Twisted Metal, event. It looked like a great Run.

kr1276 09-06-2014 11:24 AM

It was!

I saved 9K on the Cig trailer. A close friend got a new Myco, I wanted one but it was 16k at the time, so I built a better one with drive guard.

Nice work on the trailer build.

It is a Titan, class 4, big enough for a 4000 pound boat.

Drive guard. Tyler at Castaway Customs made me a pad for the drive guard and fenders.

Ooops, it's Rum thirty.

SkaterMike82 09-06-2014 03:12 PM

I could barely mount a tire. That's awesome

Biggus 09-06-2014 03:35 PM

Incredible job! Looks fantastic Jim!

Double Rigged 09-06-2014 04:54 PM

Jim
love the pad for drive guard. Can you get me his number? I want one for my trailer!
I can replace the diamond plate on my trailer with it.

kr1276 09-06-2014 05:42 PM

Got enought room up there to build a 50' trailer? By the way, you probably already have all the connections you need for trailer parts but I do have a wholesale account for trailer parts.

You sure have the truck to pull one.:)

Taboma 09-07-2014 09:21 AM

Great job! Now you need a coat of "Sharkhide" to keep it shiny!

SkaterMike82 09-07-2014 12:02 PM

I too would like to know where you got the pad with logo.

I built the support bunks today and carpeted them, I cut 1/2" grooves into the wood every 12 inches to drain the water away. They are thru bolted on each support with 3/8"bolts.

The paint was dry on the tongue jack. I welded a 1/2" steel plate to it to mount on the coupler.

Thanks to Ryan Beckley, at Kinetic Animation.com for the correct color Skater Decals

Sweet trick I saw on a cig trailer recently was an axle stub/spindle welded on. That allowed a spare wheel hub complete with bearings to hold the spare tire. If you loose a wheel bearing on the road your set.

SkaterMike82 09-07-2014 08:46 PM

So when are you Crystal River guys going to start building boats ? That's seems like it's the only thing left in your agenda :boat: Good stuff bud

Larry Gempp Jr. 09-07-2014 08:57 PM

Just cleaned out my mailbox Kirk! Sorry, please resend....

Very nice, very impressive craftsmanship.

Yes, I have been doing that for years, but where this tire is located, some one will eventually step from boat to tire, it would roll, and down they would go. It has already happened on one of my airboat trailers. No it was not me.:)

Thanks for the compliment, my old trailer was fine, I enjoy building things and started looking at race boat trailers in the Sarasota pits this year. That set the bug to build it.

Now if the last axle would arrive, I will transfer the boat over and mount the fenders. Going to build a deck over, blower motor airboat next.

When we converted my Cigarette from Konrads to Dry Sump Sixes, I learned that I don't like fiberglass work.

Zero Patience 09-08-2014 06:15 AM

Now for the question you all have:
In round numbers......
I have 1k in axles
1k in brake controller, brakes, winch, and jack
1k in 5 wheel and tires
2 k in aluminum
500 in bunks and stainless bolts
300 in welding supplies
100 in lights
250 in fenders and step mounts
So 6 k in materials. I am now up to 110 hours in it.
Only the fenders left to mount.
.

Got the boat on it today, now to mount the fenders.

.

ZP,

can you take a photo from the transom facing forward on either port/stbd side?

I'd like to see how the hull-sides clears the trailer wheel wells.

Thanks in advance.
