"Cute". You'll think cute when you take a toe off with one of those snaps. I used these on my build as well across the back. I left two on the front as we thought they were out of the way. I've managed to hit my toe on both of them. Not a big deal unless you take an asprin every day!

Your gel looks great

Thank-you ......... You are talking to a guy that used to trip over the hatch hinges and cut my feet (you know what blood looks like on a white boat?)

Solution: loose the hinges.

Which hinge system did you use. I was going to do that until I did the math for four sets of hinges! I found some nice hardware on Boat Outfitters. Good quality and fast shipping.

I did my own pivot hinges, it required re-building the deck edge @ lid to reduce the gap to a reasonable number. The pivot is about 2" forward of the back edge, so the lid at the back is radius-ed and the deck edge is to match. Sometimes I don't know when to just bite the bullet and just buy the stuff.

Your boat sure turned out "way cool."

Thanks. We love it. The pivot is a great idea. Should be stable and work well. A lot of the hidden hinge systems I looked into had issues with alignment and required threading into the bottom of the hatches. This was another trouble area which the screws would not stay tightened. I chose to use conventional hinges and keep it simple and simple and much less expensive.

"Very Cool"

I probably didn't say, but the gel cote was used for two reasons, I feel more comfortable with gel on the bottom and don't think you could find a better base for a great paint job.

Soooooo, on goes the guide coat.

Sand off the guide coat.

2nd round of guide coat, then sealer, paint

It's starting to feel like Groundhog Day

I bet you hear sanding strokes in your sleep...
