What a nightmare! I think that a semi hit it/him. The semi drivers on I-40 are all over the road here - distracted by all the technology in the cabs, IMO. Glad I have a loud horn and bright high beams!

I-40 Memphis to Little Rock is the most dangerous interstate I have ever driven. The Big Trucks delight in pulling into the left lane right in front of you and sitting beside another truck for miles often at speeds well below 65 MPH (speed limit is 70). This creates a lot of traffic build ups and road rage. Nothing worse than trying to get around one of these guys with a 9'6 beam and someone tailgating your trailer while another driver try's to cut you off by coming around in the right lane while you try to maintain a safe following distance from Joe trucker.

I have intentionally left out Larry's, Razors, one times, taboma's, Jim's, seajets, and some others that will probably post up. I think that's all I have in my puter, and what has been sent to me.

Whatcha' got in your puter?

I love the Skater in post #43 - top right picture - all white with blue deck. Very classy. Who is he and where does he run?

Nice pic of the Mobil 1 Skater and my good friend Tom Russell in the cockpit. I wired that whole boat. The owner Rob Loeffler is who I bought both of my Skaters from. Bring backs memories and tells me how old I am getting!
I do not think any other 28 won more races during its time.

lightspeed 02-18-2016 07:42 PM

We are rerigging this one with 300XS motors and new dash lay out right now will post pics when done http://i65.tinypic.com/2q99uz7.jpg

Ron, you old? My wife tells me that I am the "old one". Your history on Skaters is renowned. D.K.

Nice! Does JJ still own it? Was super clean when I last saw the boat

LL9 02-19-2016 01:24 PM

@Lightspeed the all white skater with the little blue skater logo and the n.y registration #s. Is it still in New york?? My brother used owned this boat from like 2004-08. I remember it used to have 2.5 race mercs on it with the 300hp ecus. It was once a race boat from over seas. He brought it back and did a clean up on it, all new rigging , carbon fiber dash, digital speedo, gaugaes, interior ect. with tnt marine down in maimi.

lightspeed 02-19-2016 07:08 PM

JJ sold the boat and we are doing it for the new owner ,,,,,,,The white boat we bought from Lake Cumberland in 06 sold it in like 11 to a guy in NJ he had it a few years and then wound up in Dubai

The article on the Red 28 was from 1992 and mines a 1995 but they both look almost identical. OL40SVX on this forum furnished those articles to me. Thanks flightplan for posting them up. Very enjoyable reading...

Very Cool thread Flightplan

it's like a "28 SKATERpedia"...... everything you could hope for collecting info and pics of the 28 (and not just a dribble of info here and there)

Double Rigged 02-20-2016 06:30 AM

Great stuff. Here is the trouble I have. If you look at the price sheets on most of the rigging options such as props steering etc have not gone up much in cost. Now instead of spraying multiple gelcoat colors you can just paint. I know thing cost a bit more in today's times than back in the day but you would think based on those prices for hulls which I am sure back then they were still making money they could sell 28's today that you could get a base boat for a lot less than 200k.
I think if they would sell a new basic turn key model for around 175k the 28 would come back to life!
Just dreaming I guess.

Okay thank you for the history. I had always wondered where that white 28 went. My brother traded that 28 into lake Cumberland for the 36 skater liquid metal. Crazy it's back over seas for a second time!

Kirk Jurinek now owns it and had to go through everything to get those engines figured out. It's running well now. Here's a video last summer I took. He lives around the corner from me in Antioch.

https://youtu.be/59S0QMAIjH8 I own the Mobile 1 boat now. Should be ready for the water this spring.

Larry Gempp Jr. 02-20-2016 11:01 PM

Originally the Mobile 1 boat, then Secret Agent when I bought it. This was bringing home from NY. It is all white now.

Are you going to leave it in white or put it back in it's retro paint scheme?

sea2jet 02-21-2016 08:27 AM

Of the 140 28 Skaters produced, I wonder how many were raced? I'm assuming all of those that survived are now pleasure boats. Who's 28 use to be a race boat in it's previous life?

It's going to stay all white. I do plan to get some simple graphics made for it. Maybe something like what Ryan Beckley did for Double Rigged.

Were there some 28's that did not get registered HIN's? Mine is number 129. From what I know, it is the last one produced.

sea2jet 02-21-2016 08:41 AM

Taboma,
I'm probably wrong on the 140 estimate. I got that from a few previous threads. 129 probably is the correct number produced. If Peter ever calls me back, I've been trying to get ahold of him for over a month, I'll ask.

JOE SHULMAN 02-21-2016 01:48 PM

Mine is a 2004 boat 118 also going through a complete re-rig tanks cap new gel ect...
