388 skater vs 40 mti

looking at these two models for next boat, plus and minus of both?

LAriverratt 02-25-2016 01:11 PM

plus on the 388-----its a skater

minus-----NONE

plus on a 40 mti----its a cat :coolcowboy:

minus------it's not a skater :bunnydance:

joking ...I have not clue just couldn't resist

Haven ridden in both boats, they are both really nice. The 388 is a little bigger boat and better in the really rough stuff, but seems so have more wind in the back seat. Either one is a great setup!

The 40 MTI is the same size as my 368. I was looking at 40's as well and went with the Skater. MTI's 42 is a different story and a much bigger boat.

I don't like sitting on the floor

Questions like this should just be asked to Ronnie (flight club) lol

didn't realize there was that much of a size difference. anyone have a side by side pic?

Never rode in either but from observations and understandings of each the Skater will be faster with the same power, fit and finish "bling" will be better on the MTI. The MTI looks like you're much more "in" the boat almost like a canopy without the lid where the Skater is more open like was mentioned above about wind in the back seat.

I don't think you can go wrong with either but the Skater does have the name, it always amazes me when I'm at a dock and someone comes up to talk about the boat and says that they heard there was a Skater at the marina and they just had to come check it out, not saying you won't get that with an MTI but it happens regularly with the Skaters.

I'd bet the 388 is going to hold resale value better as well. It's one of the Holy Grail boats that everyone seems to aspire to (I know I do), it seems to do everything well and not really have any weaknesses, at least that I've ever heard of.

I'd say it came down to the shape of the boats you're looking at though, if the Skaters been rode hard put up wet an the MTI's been well maintained it would be a no brainer but if they're both comparable I'd go 388.

Great pics Tax, the MTI you've got sure is a step up from the Spectre. Must be a ton of fun to run through stuff that used to be a rough ride and now not even notice it.

mlb75 02-26-2016 12:59 PM

BTW at first I thought that was DM's 368 in the pic then realized it had the bussel, I didn't know there were two paint jobs that similar on the two boats.

That is a statement and a half! He has owned MTI, Mystic, and everything else probably along with every model of skater multiple times... and keeps building Skaters year after year.

A few people have moved from other Skater models to much larger MTI, but I do not know of anyone off the top getting out of a 388. Hell, the current version of Pure Platinum is the 3rd 388 carrying the same name.

If you are going to send the $$$ on that caliber of boat - run them to find out what you want. Seat time will sell either one for you as both companies have a loyal following.

That is my 368. There is another one with similar paint but without the bustle

Great looking MTI! I saw it up close at the MTI lunch run during the shootout at LOTO. I was in the Terminator 48.

777offshore 02-27-2016 11:57 AM

Both are great boats and comparable in speed when setup properly! The 40 MTI has a hull length(transom to tips) of 36ft the 388 Skater is right at #8ft hull length. The Mti looks bigger because Randy Scism includes the overhang, over the drives in his model size.

Thank you. I always love checking out Terminator, the paint is incredible. We booked LOTO again, last year was our first year. Wife said she did not care what runs we do this year but LOTO is a must. Hope to see you in August

I thought that would be a common occurrence wherever you went after this many years???

LAriverratt 03-01-2016 09:11 AM
