358 Questions

I am looking at a 2001 358 Sonic. Is there any issues with these boats. I have heard that there were some quality issues around this time, is there any thing to look for? This boat has 500 HP's, what kind of speeds can I expect? Any info that you guys can give would be appreciated.
Thanks

DEFINATELY no quality issues at that time. There were some corners cut in the 2002/2003-ish time frame, but all the boats that had issues have been corrected to the best of my knowledge. Richard Hewitt, who ended up with SonicUSA after Jay Ross, and before CSI Marine... could have made a lot of better decisions.

Bajabennet,
We had a 2001 358 with 500 efi's and Xr drives. We had no major issues with the boat. We did have a few small strees crack in the gel coat but they were VERY minor and were fixed with no questions. The boat ran 79 mph all day long. We had just about every option that they offered at the time so the boat was not as light as others. We traded it in for a 2005 386 STS. Which we still have and love. They are great rough water boats.

NJSonic,
Nice to hear that you had good enough luck with the 358 to move up to a 386. That says a lot for the brand. I would like to move into a larger boat with the BLUE engines. We will see.
