31SS Questions

-are there any differences between a 2000 and 2003 31ss hull and any other changes?
-if you had the chance, would you purchase one with twin 502efi's or twin 496mag ho's? (both with about 130 hrs)
-how much does a 2003 31ss weigh (no arch)?-about 7800 dry?
-how difficult to change the plugs?
-I would guess a starter replacement would be out of the question without pulling a motor?
-how easy is it to replace impeller. Can you get the belt and brackets off and get down to take off the hoses so you can pull the entire bracket and impeller off?

I'd go with the mags as they are closed cooling. 502's are strong motors with good internals. Plugs are doable, but tight getting to centerline plugs. Impellers, doable. 7000lbs advertised dry weight. Not sure if they are any lighter since they started the bagging process. No changes to hull design that I am aware of during that period other than the bagging.

Never had to replace a starter. Thank God!

How many problems did Sonic have with their boats in 03 with the new infusion process? Anyone have any problems? Is an 03 boat worth buying?

None that I am aware of. YES, an '03 is worth looking at.

Is the 31 cored with anything, if so what,(hull, deck).

bigboat28 12-05-2007 03:14 PM

Does anyone know how sonics are constructed, cored with anything, hull bottom hull side or the deck and what about the liner?

How does the 31 Sonic react to the drive being trimmed? Is the 31 a fun boat to drive?

bigboat28 12-25-2007 11:06 PM

Can the 31 be trimmed up or is it pretty stuck to the water?

You really need to find someone who has one of these and go ride it! Its a great ride and is a blast to go out in and have fun! Probably the best boat for the buck and the funnest that Sonic ever put out! Just asking questions is a great start but in order to really make up your mind you need a ride :D

It wasn't Sonic's best selling model without good reason. The boat performs really well. It has handling characteristics of a bigger boat, and carries most people at least a season or two longer due to its overall size and comfort, before they fell the need for a bigger boat.

We have this one fueled and ready; sitting at the Active Thunder factory. Come on down to Ft. Lauderdale/Pompano Beach, and go for a ride.

I have had a ride in one a few years back but it was a short ride and on glass flat water. Sydwayz I'd love to ride in your boat, I'am the one trying to make you guys a deal with the Formula.

Lets see if I remember right. Vinylester resin, divinylcel coring. 3 Piece construction, hull, deck and cabin liner, GLASSED together. The 31 is called "the Hardbody" for good reason. Fantastic in rough water. Responsive and fun to drive. Great cabin. Very safe and forgiving, no scary handling issues. I had one for 10 years, the only things that ever needed to be tightened were made by Merc, not sonic. Buy one, you won't be sorry.
