As I already posted I made a purchase on a very nice Sonic 28 in CT in Feb...... Well a few weeks ago I transefered the title and reg. in MN and at the time was pleasantly surprised. I was told I only had to pay tax on the trailer, as used boats were not subject to tax. Well I just got a letter from the MN Department of Natural Resources stating that ALL used boats if purchased from a private party are not subject to a sales tax. If you purchase a used boat from a dealer you are subject to a tax they call "MN Sales, Use Tax". Like I said, just venting here, but can anyone explain the logic here.........? Anyone have a similar BS tax in your State?

In Oklahoma, say you got a good deal on a boat, you paid 20 grand for a 2008 47' fountain, you have a bill of sale showing what you paid. Here they look it up and charge tax on the retail value. You end up paying tax on 300 grand instead of 20 grand. BS New used still the same tax/tax/tax. Oklahoma does not have to regester trailers or have to buy tags for them (exempt) probably why so many trailers are stolen from OK. If you have an outboard your taxed again over the boat but not stern-drives or inboards.

I love the no trailer tags rule.
