The '98 in the classifieds looks like great deal
Yes, I called about it the day I found it and he had already sold. Called him this morning to see if the deal went through, and the guy was picking it up as we were talking... keeps happening.
What about the '01?
above my price point. Not wanting to finance. nice boat and in condition though. I had been looking at formula and fountain, but the cabin room in the sonic has got me. It has the room I need to do weekends on the water. It is just the size to pull with my truck, get any bigger and I'll be in the market for bigger truck.
How about a 29 powerquest? A friend has one that is mint.
Where r u located?
Run into the towing problem with my truck, nice boat and looked at a few. If money was no issue I would buy a bigger truck and a bigger boat. life would be grand. Located in Alabama, but driving is not an issue. a long weekend of driving for weekends of good fun on the water, worth it to me.
any more?
Alright, I'll bite, I've got a 2001 with a 525 EFI one owner freshwater, extremely clean. Steve

2001 sonice 260 prowler for sale
we are asking $40,000 with trailer. All accessories included. Gps/chart plotter, sunbrella, life jackets, bumpers, anchor and lines. Trailer is a 2002.
With much dismay, I have come to the realization I need to sell my Prowler.
It is a fresh water only 2002, on a Load Rite aluminum tandem trailer. Boat came with 496 HO, I bought with 44 total hours. I didn't find that adequate, so two years ago I had new 540cu stroker motor built by Dores Marine Engines (who built engines in "Sloppy Joes", "Shakin'", and many other race boats). Motor is about 625HP, and has well under 100 hours on it. Boat has shore power hook up, a two amp, 6 speaker stereo, plus two 15" subs. Full cover at all times, and kept on trailer in my yard, or in enclosed storage. Trailer was freshened with new bunks, complete brakes, and (4) new tires this past winter. Looking for $48k for it complete, and have new second cover still in box for it, as well as spare s/s prop. THX, PM me if interested. |

2001 525 EFI Prowler
I've got an "exceptionaly" clean,"freshwater" one owner Prowler with a Mercury Racing 525 EFI with 102 hrs on a mint trailer, EOH Kodiak disks,"new" cockpit and full storage covers, "new" Goodyear rubber, loaded with options, which I'm about to list, PM me or call 414-791-2225 Steve (For less with Mercury Racing power)
Even with that much power, still only see 70-72 MPH.
I was just asking cause i also just put a 540 in mine.Still trying to work out the bugs but have seen 76 with 3 guys and a full tank of fuel
I could run 70-72 top end (perfect conditions) with a 1999 26' Sonic (heavier than later models) & 500EFI.
Something does not sound right. |

Something does not sound right. Just my 2 cents. Ive had three setups in mine. |
I've thought 70-72 was on low side myself, and know from the dyno sheets how much motor I had built, so I suspect I don't have the right prop on the boat.
That being said, I agree that high 70's is nearing the end of where I would take a 26' boat, anyway...even with the Prowler being a super-solid 26' boat. At this point, it will be someone elses boat to play props on, as I need the cash out of it. |
Sorry to jump in but how does a 26 sonic compare to a 26 velocity or an older 25 sunsation, just asking becouse I'm looking at options at 26ft
26 Velocity is a pad bottom boat and will be fast in flat water but not as comfortable in the rough.
25 Sunsation does not compare. It's 23'7" long and only 7' wide. It's a MUCH smaller boat and basically a great handling go-cart on the water; especially with a BBC that has some grunt. (The 288 Sunsation is a better comparison.) 26 Sonic will be bigger and slower than either UNTIL you get into 2-3+ footers (where it counts). Then the Sonic will be "there" LONG before the other two. I'd also take a hard look at the 28' Active Thunder. It looks like we'll have our hands on both a used 26' Sonic and a used 28' Active Thunder sooner than later. |
Brian, keep me in the loop on your used inventory.
Thanks, Rob |
Brian, thanks for the input what does a 26 run with lets say a 496 in it?
also is the 26 a true 26? I know that the velocity is like a 24
26' Sonic is a 25' hull with an integrated swim platform.
It also has a notch cut out of the transom that is a couple inches deep. The purpose of the notch is to put the prop in cleaner water. However, to some not experienced with dialing in the trim on a Sonic, they will see a porpoise and everyone blames the notch. The notch works. The boat works better in rougher water than glass--plain and simple. It will run low-mid 60s with a 496HO. It will run low-mid 70s with a 525EFI. My 1999 26' Sonic with a 500EFI saw a best of 72mph. 1998-2002 boats are heavier. In 2003 Vaccum Bagging/Infusion hull layup process was introduced to the entire Sonic lineup, but each boat may vary in the 2003-2004 timeframe. 2004+ boats are a couple (hundred) pounds lighter and a few ticks faster. A 2004+ 28 Active Thunder is LIGHTER than a 26' Sonic & it's a true 28' boat. Speeds are about the same. |
i have a customer of mine that is looking to move up. 1999 26 prowler, new 496mag ho, new xr drive this summer and a pretty new venture alum. trailer. looking for around 30k
I saw 67 mph with my 496 with 4 guys and a full tank of fuel. But i also have ITS on mine
gps or speedo?
gps

I might be willing to part ways with mine. I have a 2002 26 prowler with a 496ho w/ whipple charger pushing 6lbs of boost..the motor was redone about 100 hours ago, right before I had the whipple installed,
I must say I just got back a couple of weeks ago from the cumberland lake poker were it was pretty rough this year and the boat thrived in the 2-3 footers. Best speed I have seen 76.8 on GPS with 3/4 tank and 1 other person on the boat with me. I am looking at possible moving into a 38 cat. |
