I'm running 26P bravo's on my 31 with 502 mpi's. Just wondering if anyone has tried 28P props with this setup?

I know some of the 496 HO 31's are running 28's.

Hey Brian! What rpm's are you running now, and are the 26's stock. I imagine you could handle lab 28's and keep the rpms close to where you are now.

My 26's were worked to keep me at about 4900 rpm's.

Worked which way? More or less pitch, cup?

It must have been more of something, but I'm not sure what he did. I was spinning around 5000 rpm's on one and a lot lower on the other motor. Gary balanced them for me.

I think 28's would be a good thing to try.

Gary said that he thinks I would only be able to spin 28's at about 4400 rpms. Anyone know if the X dimension is higher on the newer boats with 496's?

I don't think it would change. They, the factory have a little room to move things up and down slightly. Look up under your swim platform and see how close your exhaust is to the underside of the platform. If it is to the point it could not be raised any higher or you would have to start cutting into the underside of the swim platform. you are as high as you can go.

Your current props are putting you in a good RPM range. I'm not sure what optimal WOT is for the 502, but I've found that 5050 is where my HO's run fastest. Standard 28's would drop the RPM's way too much. Even labbed 28's would drop you about 150 RPM. IMO, running low RPM's puts too much strain on the engine.

I know you already have a prop guy, but you should really talk to Brett at Bblades. He worked for Mercury Propeller for years and really knows his stuff. I think you're looking for a set of labbed and cupped 26's to get you closer to 5000 RPM. Think about getting a second set to work with. If you boat in extreme temp conditions like I do, between 50 and 100 degrees, it's nice to have a way to compensate for lost or gained power.
